World of Warcraft has made a notable adjustment by decreasing the number of Timewarped Badges players can earn through weekly quests on alternate characters during Timewalking events. This decision comes in light of the newly introduced Warbands system and will be implemented in all upcoming Timewalking weeks.
Timewalking is a recurring event in World of Warcraft that allows players to engage in older dungeons and raids at their current level, earning rewards and experience along the way. Currently, every expansion from The Burning Crusade to Legion features a Timewalking event, complete with a vendor that offers a variety of mounts, pets, toys, reputation badges, and Timewarped gear that scales with the character's level.
However, gathering Timewarped Badges for use at these vendors has just become significantly more challenging. Previously, any character that completed a Timewalking dungeon or raid could earn a quest that rewarded them with 500 Timewarped Badges. Now, this substantial reward is exclusive to the first character on an account that completes the quests; subsequent characters will receive only 300 badges for the raid quest and 200 for the dungeon quest, effectively cutting the rewards for alternate characters in half.
Blizzard has explained that the primary motivation behind this change is the Warbands feature, which allows Timewarped Badges to be freely transferred between characters on the same account. This modification enables players to accumulate a significant amount of this currency in one place. By reducing the efficiency of earning Timewarped Badges on alternate characters, Blizzard aims to lessen the pressure to play multiple characters while still allowing dedicated players to gather a reasonable amount of currency relatively quickly.
Despite the rationale behind the adjustment, many World of Warcraft fans are expressing their dissatisfaction. The ability to gather large quantities of Timewarped Badges was a key appeal of the Timewalking events, and the reduced rewards are seen by many as an unnecessary penalty. Blizzard has indicated that it is monitoring how the Warbands feature interacts with Timewalking and may consider further adjustments in the future, but for now, players must adjust to the new system for earning Timewarped Badges.
This change comes at a particularly challenging time, as World of Warcraft is gearing up for its 20th anniversary event, which starts on October 22. A brand-new Classic Timewalking event will be one of the highlights, offering numerous new items to purchase with Timewarped Badges. As a result, fans will need to put in extra effort to collect the badges necessary to acquire all the new rewards.
