As the launch of Episode: Revenant approaches, Bungie has announced the removal of seasonal weapon crafting in Destiny 2 to enhance the excitement of the gear chase. This upcoming week promises to be significant for Destiny 2 players, with the new episode set to debut on October 8, redirecting attention to Fikrul and his Scorn.
Alongside a new story campaign featuring the second echo, Bungie is implementing substantial changes to the core gameplay experience. While fans anticipate a comprehensive patch note release ahead of Episode: Revenant, Bungie has been transparent about many adjustments, including planned changes to exotic weapons and buffs. However, one of the most notable alterations is the elimination of the popular seasonal feature, which has sparked mixed reactions within the community.
In a recent blog post, Bungie confirmed that starting with Episode: Revenant, players will no longer receive seasonal weapons with Deepsight activation. This means that the forthcoming Revenant weapons cannot be crafted after acquiring a pattern.
Instead, players will need to engage in various Destiny 2 episodic activities to hunt for specific weapon rolls, rather than simply crafting them. This shift is not just a temporary measure, as it will also be implemented in Episode: Heresy.
The introduction of weapon crafting has been a contentious topic among players. On one hand, crafting allows players to create the exact weapon they desire once they have unlocked a pattern. Conversely, some players argue that this system diminishes the thrill of the gear chase, a hallmark of the Destiny 2 experience.
Bungie seems to share this sentiment, noting in their blog that episodic activities are more engaging when players are on the hunt for the perfect weapon roll. While crafting is not being entirely eliminated, Bungie aims to restore value to the gear chase, referencing the enjoyment players experienced while pursuing specific rolls of the Brave Arsenal weapons from Destiny 2: Into the Light.
Following this announcement, Bungie confirmed that Episode: Revenant will reintroduce all weapons from the Garden of Salvation for Destiny 2 players. These weapons will feature new perks to seek out, and the Ancient Gospel hand cannon will now deal Void damage.
Excitingly, players will also be able to unlock patterns for this gear, allowing them to craft tailored versions with their desired perks once fully unlocked. Players can find these weapons within the Garden of Salvation and can also visit Hawthorne in the Tower to pick up a quest that grants a Deepsight version each week.
