Bungie, the developer behind Destiny 2, has unveiled new details about its upcoming plans for Codename: Frontiers, focusing on the roadmap for raids and dungeons set to launch next year. The studio has also shared insights into how Destiny 2’s endgame content is poised to evolve.
In a blog post released earlier in September, Bungie elaborated on its vision for 2025, outlining the two upcoming expansions—codenamed "Apollo" and "Behemoth"—and the diverse content these expansions will introduce.
With the conclusion of Destiny 2’s decade-long Light and Dark saga through The Final Shape, Bungie aims to revitalize the game’s formula moving forward. Game Director Tyson Green emphasized in a previous post that "It’s time for Destiny to change and evolve." The information revealed about Codename: Frontiers indicates that 2025 could bring exciting transformations to the game.
Instead of the usual single annual update, Destiny 2 will feature two significant expansions in 2025: the first set to launch in the summer and the second in the winter. Players can also anticipate four substantial updates and reward passes released at intervals throughout the year.
While this roadmap promises a wealth of content, Bungie has recently provided further details about its new raid and dungeon initiatives for next year in the latest installment of This Week In Destiny.
Bungie has confirmed that Destiny 2 will continue to receive one new raid annually, coinciding with the release of each year's first expansion. Each raid will benefit from an improved difficulty customization system called "Feats," enabling players to select from a range of optional modifiers that enhance the challenge and the rewards.
The Feats system will replace the current mechanics for raid difficulty and challenges. Additionally, every major update following a raid’s launch will include a "challenge update" to refresh the activity. This will involve introducing new rewards, mechanics, and potentially even new encounters to keep the gameplay engaging.
Building on the success of the Pantheon activity in Destiny 2, Bungie has plans to introduce a similar raid event with the final major update of 2025, though specific details remain scarce.
In addition to raids, Destiny 2 will also feature a new dungeon activity as part of the second expansion of 2025, Codename: Behemoth. Bungie has announced it will eliminate Dungeon Keys moving forward and hinted at a richer variety of loot in each new dungeon, which is expected to rival that found in raids.
