Playground Games has unveiled the exciting Back to the 90s update for Forza Horizon 5, set to launch this month. This nostalgic content addition will feature four new reward cars from the 1990s, themed events and races, a range of bug fixes and improvements, the return of a beloved feature, and much more.
Forza Horizon 5, widely celebrated as one of the premier open-world racing titles in recent years, has received consistent support from Playground Games since its release in November 2021. Regular monthly updates introduce new cars, game modes, features, and playlists, often themed around the changing seasons. However, the forthcoming Back to the 90s update departs from October's spooky atmosphere to cater to players yearning for the charm of a bygone era.
Starting October 10, the Back to the 90s update will transport players back in time with four new reward cars from the 90s: the Aston Martin Lagonda, Subaru SVX, Toyota Soarer 2.5 GT-T, and Mitsubishi FTO GP Version R. A new 90s-themed Festival Playlist will also feature special races, challenges, and events, along with a collectible VHS item, a 90s Cosmetic Outfit, and the chance to earn up to three new Badges. The recently introduced Hide and Seek game mode will gain five unique achievements as part of this update.
One of the most anticipated aspects of the Back to the 90s update is the return of Horizon Backstage to Forza Horizon 5. This feature, popular in previous Forza Horizon titles, allows car collectors to claim reward cars previously locked behind older Festival Playlists on a weekly basis.
Initially, players will have access to six cars through Horizon Backstage, with the community voting on one of two pairs of cars to feature each week. Excitement is palpable for this inclusion, as many of the fastest cars in Forza Horizon 5 were exclusive to earlier Festival Playlists.
While the Back to the 90s update is relatively modest in terms of content, many players will likely appreciate the themed events, collectibles, and new cars. However, some fans feel that Playground missed a golden opportunity to incorporate iconic 90s music, similar to the Forza Horizon 5 Retrowave update.
