Bungie has announced exciting new content and major adjustments to the Crucible in Destiny 2, set to debut with the launch of Episode: Revenant in October. Anticipation is high within the Destiny 2 community as the current episode nears its conclusion. Following the wrap-up of the Echoes storyline, Bungie is gradually revealing new details about Episode: Revenant, which shifts focus back to the Scorn and their leader, Fikrul the Fanatic.
While players await the complete patch notes, it’s clear that Bungie is committed to enhancing the gameplay experience with Episode: Revenant. One significant change is the removal of time restrictions on the story progression, allowing all Destiny 2 players to engage with Episode: Revenant at their own pace.
Moreover, Bungie is implementing substantial adjustments to subclass abilities and roaming supers, transforming Titans into the robust Tank role that many players envision. This week also brought noteworthy updates for the game’s PvP mode.
In a comprehensive blog post, Bungie outlined major changes coming to the Crucible. The studio is introducing new balancing rules for matchmaking, aiming to foster a more equitable team composition and preventing premade fireteams from being separated. The Episode: Revenant update will also feature weapon adjustments, with Adaptive Hand Cannons, Auto Rifles, and High-Impact Pulse Rifles receiving nerfs, as these have consistently dominated the meta.
Bungie is also buffing several underperforming weapon types, including Adaptive Submachine Guns, Precision Hand Cannons, and High-Impact Auto Rifles. Minor balancing tweaks will also apply to Special and Heavy weapons, particularly impacting High-Impact Machine Guns, Heavy Ammo Grenade Launchers, and Trace Rifles.
In addition to the sandbox changes, Bungie confirmed the return of the Solitude map to the rotation, albeit with some alterations. The revamped version features adjustments to its geometry and spawn locations, designed to enhance overall flow. Solitude will be included in both the Competitive and 6v6 playlists, but it won’t initially appear in Trials as the studio seeks player feedback.
Another significant quality of life improvement in Episode: Revenant involves the user interface. Instead of displaying Guardian Ranks, players will now see class icons for clearer information during matches. New callouts will be added, including an "Assisted By" message, and the player tombstone will show a weapon icon, indicating the type of gun responsible for the final blow. The often-criticized Mercy Rule is also getting an update, extending the window during which matches can invoke mercy, thereby reducing instances of drawn-out games once the window has closed.
In response to community requests, Bungie is implementing a long-awaited change: when Episode: Revenant launches, crouch spamming will be limited. A cap will be placed on how many times a player can crouch in quick succession, a change that has been positively received by the community. This adjustment aims to reduce rapid crouch spamming during gunfights while still allowing for tactical use of the move.
