A recent report indicates that Ubisoft initially aimed for a November 2025 release for the much-anticipated remake of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag. However, this timeline might be in jeopardy following the recent delay of Assassin's Creed Shadows. Widely regarded as one of the franchise's standout entries, Black Flag is rumored to be undergoing a remake, with an industry insider claiming to have seen work-in-progress gameplay footage.
Originally, Assassin's Creed Shadows was set to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on November 15. However, Ubisoft announced a delay in September, pushing the game’s release to February 14, 2025. While fans are understandably disappointed by this news, it appears the ripple effect of this delay could impact the entire lineup of upcoming Assassin's Creed titles.
With the schedule for Assassin's Creed Shadows now shifting to 2025, fans were not anticipating another Assassin's Creed game releasing shortly after. According to a report from Insider Gaming, Ubisoft's original plan was to release Shadows in November 2024, followed by the Black Flag remake just a year later, in November 2025.
Despite claims that the remake is "well into development," the delay of Shadows has reportedly resulted in a domino effect, pushing back several other titles in the series, including the Black Flag remake.
Rumors regarding the remake of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag first emerged in June 2023 when a Kotaku report indicated that Ubisoft had greenlit the project. At that time, it was noted that the remake was still in the very early stages of development, suggesting that it would take several years before it became available. Given that numerous other Assassin's Creed titles had already been confirmed by Ubisoft, the release of a Black Flag remake appeared to be a distant prospect.
Insider Gaming's report further reveals that Ubisoft plans to accelerate its Assassin's Creed releases, aiming to launch a total of ten different titles over the next five years. This lineup will include major mainline games like Assassin's Creed Shadows and smaller projects, such as the mobile game Assassin's Creed Jade, which is rumored to target a Q2 2025 release.
However, an internal email obtained by Insider Gaming states that the delay of Shadows will "also impact the rest of the Assassin's Creed roadmap." This means that the Black Flag remake, along with Codename Jade and Codename Invictus—a multiplayer-focused entry in the series—are all now likely to be released later than initially planned.
