The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom – Upgrading Your Swordfighter Form

As players step into the role of Zelda for the first time in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, many are curious about the presence of sword combat in the game. While most of the gameplay revolves around the new Echo mechanic, fans of Link will be pleased to discover that his combat style is still very much integrated into the experience.

In the early stages of Echoes of Wisdom, Zelda will learn the crucial Swordfighter Form combat mechanic. This unique system allows her to channel Link's abilities using powerful magic, albeit for a limited duration. This feature enables players to enjoy the best of both worlds, enhancing the fun factor of Echoes of Wisdom. This guide will explain how to acquire the Sword of Might and level up the Swordfighter Form.

How to Obtain a Sword in Echoes of Wisdom

Players will primarily control Zelda throughout Echoes of Wisdom, aside from a brief introductory sequence. Fortunately, those looking to emulate Link's fighting style won’t have to wait long.

The Swordfighter Form is unlocked early during “The Mysterious Rifts,” the first major quest of the game. After Link falls into a rift at the game’s start, he is absent until Shadow Link suddenly appears to challenge Zelda while she navigates the Suthorn Ruins dungeon.

Defeating Shadow Link:

At this stage in the game, Shadow Link presents a significant challenge, pursuing Zelda with relentless aggression. However, Zelda can utilize multiple Echoes to either attack or distract Link. The key strategy is to maneuver behind Link to target his vulnerable side with thrown items, as his shield will block attacks from the front.

Once you successfully defeat Shadow Link, a Mysterious Sword will be found embedded in the ground. Picking it up will unlock the Swordfighter Form.

Understanding Swordfighter Form:

Activating the Swordfighter Form grants Zelda temporary access to Link's combat style by pressing Up on the D-Pad. She can wield the Sword of Might and execute Link's spin attack by holding down the attack button. Additionally, Swordfighter Form enhances Zelda's jumping ability, which can be useful for reaching elevated areas. This form relies on an Energy Bar, and players should be on the lookout for small blue bubbles that replenish energy during their adventures.

Upgrading Swordfighter Form in Echoes of Wisdom

Zelda will be introduced to the upgrade mechanic after completing “The Mysterious Rift.” Following her victory over the Seismic Talus, Tri will gift her five unique crystals. Although Zelda won’t know their purpose initially, these are revealed to be Might Crystals, essential crafting materials for enhancing the Swordfighter Form.

Might Crystals can be obtained as rewards for defeating powerful bosses, completing side quests, and exploring the game world. Collecting these crystals is worthwhile, especially if you aim to extend Zelda's Energy Bar and boost the Sword of Might’s power. Early side quests such as “Finding the Flying Plant” and “Elusive Tumbleweed” also reward players with Might Crystals, which can also be discovered in treasure chests throughout the game.

Lueberry's House:

After closing the rift north of Suthorn Village and finishing “The Mysterious Rifts,” Zelda will meet the real Minister Lefte, who suggests visiting the house revealed upon closing the rift. This home belongs to Lueberry, Impa's brother, who will introduce Zelda to the upgrade system powered by a machine located in his home.

After conversing with Lueberry and learning the upgrade details, Zelda can interact with the large machine in the corner of his house. Lueberry will present Zelda with two enhancement options:

- My Sword: Increases the sword's attack power for a cost of 10 Might Crystals.
