Digimon is officially returning! The brand-new anime series Digimon Beatbreak is set to premiere in October 2025. Announced during Digimon Con 2025, this new chapter marks the franchise's highly anticipated comeback after nearly two years since the conclusion of Digimon Ghost Game in early 2023.
Digimon, short for "Digital Monsters", began as a virtual pet toy line in 1997 and evolved into one of the most iconic anime franchises of the early 2000s. The first series, Digimon Adventure, aired in 1999 and captured hearts worldwide with its mix of emotional storytelling, epic battles, and the bond between humans and their digital partners. Over the years, the franchise has expanded with multiple TV series, movies, games, and merchandise, keeping fans engaged for over two decades.
Digimon Beatbreak is a completely original TV anime series—not a remake or reboot. The premise teases a much darker narrative, revolving around "emotion-devouring digital lifeforms". The tone is more cyberpunk than any previous Digimon series, with a moody color palette, urban settings, and hints of psychological drama. The teaser visual and trailer dropped during Digimon Con 2025 showed urban landscapes bathed in neon light, suggesting a modern, possibly music-themed twist on the classic Digimon formula.
The main protagonist is Tomorō Tenma, a 15-year-old high school freshman. Unlike previous Digimon heroes, Tomorō wears glasses instead of goggles, signaling a shift in tone and personality. He is described as introspective, intelligent, and emotionally reserved—a perfect foil for the emotional chaos of this new world.
His partner Digimon is Gekkomon, a Data-type creature in its Growth stage. With its amphibious, reptilian look, Gekkomon stands out from the dinosaur-type Digimon usually associated with lead characters. Together, they’ll uncover the truth behind emotion-based digital threats while navigating their own developing bond.
Tomorō Tenma is voiced by Miyu Irino, a veteran voice actor whose past roles include Ritsu in Mob Psycho 100, Jinta Yadomi in Anohana, and Monzaemon in Digimon Ghost Game. Irino has spoken openly about Digimon's impact on his youth and says he hopes this new role resonates with fans both new and old.
Gekkomon is voiced by Megumi Han, best known for her iconic role as Gon Freecss in Hunter x Hunter and Sailor Jupiter in Sailor Moon Crystal. Han has said that voicing a partner Digimon fulfills a childhood dream, as she grew up watching the original Digimon Adventure series.
Digimon Beatbreak will premiere in October 2025, airing as part of Japan's fall anime season. While the exact date and broadcast network haven’t been confirmed yet, the timing positions it among the most anticipated anime launches of the year. No official announcement has been made regarding international streaming or dubbed versions, but based on the franchise’s global popularity, fans can expect updates soon from platforms like Crunchyroll, Netflix, or Hulu.
This is the tenth original Digimon TV anime series, making it a milestone in the franchise’s history. It comes at a time when Digimon is celebrating its 25th anniversary and looking to reconnect with fans who’ve grown up while also attracting a new generation of viewers.
The themes are clearly more mature, touching on emotional trauma, identity, and digital consciousness. The urban cyberpunk aesthetic feels like a fresh visual direction, and the writing promises psychological complexity not seen since Digimon Tamers. Add to that a legacy voice cast and a partner Digimon unlike any we’ve seen before, and it’s clear this series is aiming for depth, not just nostalgia.
As we approach the premiere, fans can expect more details including theme songs, additional characters, full staff lists, trailers, and potentially international streaming announcements. With the way the franchise has handled rollouts in the past, V-Jump magazine and official social media channels will likely lead the way in dropping updates.
Digimon Beatbreak is not just a new anime series—it’s a statement. It blends everything that made Digimon timeless with new ideas that push the boundaries of its world. Whether you’re a longtime fan or just getting into the franchise, this October could mark the beginning of a new digital adventure that’s darker, deeper, and more relevant than ever before!
