Pokemon GO fans are calling on Niantic to finally add a much-loved Gen 7 Pokémon, Mimikyu, to the mobile game in time for this year’s Halloween event. Since its launch over eight years ago, Pokemon GO has introduced a vast array of creatures from every generation of the franchise, alongside regional variants and holiday-themed Pokémon. However, players are now urging the addition of one key Pokémon from Generation 7 that has yet to make its debut.
Since its introduction in Pokemon Sun & Moon, Mimikyu has become a fan favorite thanks to its unique design and lore. According to multiple Pokédex entries, Mimikyu is a lonely Pokémon that disguises itself in a Pikachu costume to feel closer to people and other Pokémon. Its eerie backstory, in which glimpsing its true form brings misfortune or even death, has made Mimikyu a standout in the Pokémon universe. Despite reappearing in later titles like Sword & Shield and Scarlet & Violet, Mimikyu remains absent from Pokemon GO—and players are eager for that to change.
A recent post by Reddit user XSalty_RamenX on the Pokemon GO subreddit voices frustration over the delay in adding Mimikyu, especially since Alola-region Pokémon were introduced to the game in 2022. The user suggests Halloween as the ideal time to bring Mimikyu into the fold, citing the Pokémon’s ghostly, costumed appearance as a perfect fit for the holiday event. As of now, Mimikyu has only been referenced in Pokemon GO through a Pikachu donning a Mimikyu costume.
The Reddit post has sparked discussions among fans, with many referencing in-game nods to Mimikyu and speculating on why it hasn’t been added yet. Some players highlight that Pokemon GO has featured Mimikyu-themed clothing items for avatars for several years, along with the aforementioned Pikachu costume. Others speculate that Mimikyu’s unique Ability could be a reason for its exclusion, pointing to similar cases like Morpeko, which also features a distinctive Ability. As of now, Niantic has not officially announced plans to introduce Mimikyu.
While fans continue to wait for Mimikyu, Pokemon GO has teased several new Pokémon for upcoming events. Niantic has confirmed an October event centered around Team GO Rocket, where players will have the opportunity to catch a Shadow Heatran. Additionally, new Dynamax Pokémon are set to arrive in the game next month, with Max Battles featuring Falinks and the Galar Starter trio. For now, Pokemon GO players can only hope that one of the fanbase’s most beloved creatures will finally get its long-awaited debut.
