As you advance through Black Myth: Wukong, you'll face increasingly formidable optional bosses. To conquer these challenges, it's essential to be well-prepared with robust armor and powerful weapons.

One such boss is the Elder Amourworm, an optional challenge that becomes available in Chapter Four. While it resembles the regular Amourworm enemies encountered in the Webbed Hollow region, the Elder Amourworm is significantly tougher, delivering harder hits and employing complex attack patterns.

Locating the Elder Amourworm

To find the Elder Amourworm, head to The Verdure Bridge Shrine in the Webbed Hollow area of Chapter Four. First, you'll need to defeat The Second Sister. Afterward, jump into the pit in front of her arena to access the area where the Elder Amourworm resides.

From The Verdure Bridge Shrine, cross the wooden bridge to the left and follow the path on the left. You'll come across two talking lanterns hanging near a rock opening. Approaching these lanterns triggers a cutscene where one of The Second Sister’s siblings informs you about the treasure in the nearby room.

Entering this room reveals several treasure chests containing crafting materials, medicines, and the Legendary Xiang River Goddess Gourd. Continue through the room, and you’ll eventually encounter the Elder Amourworm waiting at the edge of a cliff.

Understanding Elder Amourworm's Attacks

Elder Amourworm’s attacks are generally slow but deal substantial damage and can cover the ground with poison. To avoid suffering from poison status, bring Antimiasma Powder Medicine and boost your poison resistance.

Attacks

Description

How To Avoid

Web Spray

Just as you enter the fight, Elder Amourworm will spray webs on you. This attack will lock you in place for a short duration.

This attack is fairly easy to avoid by dodging. However, if you do get hit by it, start mashing the dodge button so the Destined One can break out of the web. After that, dodge to the sides to avoid the follow-up attack.

If you don’t break out of the web, you’ll get hit by the Instant Headbutt follow-up. The boss may also use this move later on in the fight.

Instant Headbutt

Like regular Amourworm enemies, the Elder Amourworm also uses this attack where it will reel back its head and then fly at you, dealing a lot of damage and knocking you down.

While being a powerful attack, the Instant Headbutt is quite predictable and linear. You can easily avoid it by dodging in any direction or by constantly moving to the sides.

Jumping Slam

The Elder Amourworm will jump into the air, slamming its entire body on the ground on landing.

You can avoid this attack by dodging just as the boss is about to land on the ground.

Continuous Poison Spray

The boss will continuously spit poison out of its tail in the Destined One’s direction.

This attack lasts for a little while, so you’ll have to avoid it by sprinting to either left or right. Keep sprinting until the boss stops spitting out poison.

Poison Spitting

This move is a little different compared to the Continuous Poison Spray, as the boss is shooting poison out of its mouth instead of the tail. Elder Amourworm may spit poison multiple times. The animation of this attack is quite similar to the Web Spray.

Unlike the Continuous Poison Spray, Elder Amourworm shoots poison in bursts for this attack. Avoid this attack by dodging exactly when the poison projectiles are about to hit you.

Body Slam With Poison Follow-Up

The boss will slam the front part of its body on the ground several times. Elder Amourworm will also spray poison from its tail in between these body slams.

You have to dodge repeatedly to get out of the attack and the follow-up poison’s range. Be wary of approaching the boss while it’s executing this attack.

5-Hit Headswing Combo

Elder Armourworm will swing its head around up to four times, before smashing its head into the ground. Be wary, as the boss may slam its head on the ground repeatedly, while also spraying poison from its tail.

Let the boss finish this attack. Dodge exactly when the head swing comes out. These attacks are slow, but if you try to attack the boss in the middle of it, you’ll likely get hit.

Strategies to Defeat Elder Amourworm

Defeating the Elder Amourworm requires patience and strategic timing. Approach carefully and avoid reckless attacks to prevent taking unnecessary hits.

Effective Strategy:

- Immobilize Spell: Use it as soon as possible to immobilize the boss.

- Red Tides Transformation: Follow up with this transformation to inflict additional damage.

- Reapply Immobilize: As soon as the Immobilize Spell cooldown ends, use it again to maintain control over the boss.

If you get the chance to perform a full light attack combo, be cautious. The boss may appear staggered and about to fall, but this could be a deceptive attack that inflicts damage if it lands near you.

Avoid using the A Pluck of Many Spell due to its high mana cost and the boss's ability to quickly eliminate your duplicates. Equip the Gal Gem Soak for extra poison resistance and utilize Antimiasma Powder Medicine to counteract poison effects. Investing Sparks in the Bane Mitigation Talent is also wise to minimize poisoning.

Wearing the Golden Armor set can enhance your resilience against physical attacks, making it easier to withstand some of the boss’s hits. Alternatively, equipping a spirit or gourd that boosts the Destined One in a poisoned state can be highly effective, as the Elder Amourworm’s attacks can inflict Poison Bane frequently.

Rewards for Defeating the Elder Amourworm

Upon defeating the Elder Amourworm, you will receive the Proto-Amourworm Key Item, one Refined Iron Sand, and 1456 Will.

The primary reward is the Elder Amourworm Spirit. To obtain it, bring the Proto-Amourworm to Chen Loong in the Zodiac Village, accessible through the Ruyi Scroll. After delivering the Proto-Amourworm and resting at a shrine, feed it three Rice Cocoon key items, which can be obtained by destroying sacks scattered throughout the Webbed Hollow area. Once fed, you can claim the Elder Amourworm Spirit.

The Elder Amourworm Spirit boosts your Critical Hit Chance when poisoned, which is especially valuable in Chapter Four, where many enemies inflict Poison Bane. Transforming into the Elder Amourworm spirit enables you to spray poison on the ground, gradually affecting enemies who step on it with the poison status ailment.
