After an intense battle with the Yellow Wind Sage and retrieving the head of the Buddha, you will arrive in the frigid expanse of The New West. Here, you will encounter Kang-Jin Loong, a formidable Yaoguai King featured in the third chapter of Black Myth: Wukong.
While this boss may not be the most difficult foe you’ll face in this chapter, it poses a considerable challenge, as defeating Kang-Jin Loong will grant you access to a new area. This guide provides comprehensive details on locating Kang-Jin Loong and effective strategies to overcome this boss in Black Myth: Wukong.
If you've completed Xu-Dog's quest in Yellow Wind Ridge during the second chapter, you can purchase Shock-Quelling Powder medicine from him, which can be advantageous in this encounter.
After defeating the Macaque Chief in New West, players can proceed to explore the nearby Temple. Upon reaching the courtyard, a cutscene will trigger, transporting you to the Mirrormere, where you'll land beside a Keeper's Shrine. From the Shrine, continue straight ahead to find the first Meditation Spot in Chapter 3. Just ahead, you'll come across an Ice Lake, where a new character will release the Kang-Jin Loong boss from his pouch.
While Kang-Jin Loong's strength and stamina aren’t particularly daunting, the challenge lies in successfully landing hits on this elusive boss. Throughout the battle, Kang-Jin Loong will soar above the expansive ice lake, forcing you to chase him to land even a single Light Attack combo. After each attack, the boss will lower its head momentarily, presenting a prime opportunity to strike. However, be cautious; if you dodge too late, you may end up near the dragon's body.
When attacking, prioritize strikes to its head instead of its body, as its movement pattern makes targeting its body less effective.
Kang-Jin Loong has a notable attack where it slams a talon into the ground, generating a lightning shock before striking with the same limb. Another great opportunity to inflict damage is when it crashes its lower body toward you. If you successfully evade this, you can quickly counterattack before it rises again. Additionally, Kang-Jin Loong may take flight and unleash lightning strikes across various spots in the arena. These have clear visual cues on the ground, allowing you to dodge them with ease.
It's worth noting that the Fireproof Mantle won’t be effective in this battle, so equip the Wind Tamer Vessel obtained after defeating Fuban in the Kingdom of Sahali instead.
After you inflict substantial damage and utilize multiple focus bar attacks, Kang-Jin Loong will crash down onto the icy surface. This moment is ideal for using your Immobilize or A Pluck of Many, combined with your Spirit Skill, to significantly deplete the boss’s health.
Among the Spirits, the Wandering Wight Spirit is particularly valuable, as it boosts your defense and deals substantial damage if successfully landed on the boss.
The Ice Breath attack is fairly simple to avoid; just move directly beneath the boss. If you maintain close proximity, it may execute an airborne attack, spinning around and launching you into the air, typically followed by a lightning strike or a claw combo.
Lastly, be wary of the grab attack. Keep your health above 50% throughout the fight; otherwise, you risk being defeated or left with minimal health after the concluding cutscene.
Upon defeating Kang-Jin Loong, players will receive the following rewards:
- Will
- Starlit Cloud-Bidden Antler
- Cold Iron Leaves x3
After the boss encounter, you will be transported to a cell in the Pagoda Realm, where you must put an end to the Pagoda Curse and find your way out.
