Ghost of Tsushima made its PlayStation 5 debut this year, bringing along the exciting Iki Island Expansion. This DLC sends Jin Sakai from Tsushima to Iki Island, where he continues his battle against the Mongol invaders. Among the new content is the demanding Hidden Cove Tournament, a series of challenging duels that test Jin's combat skills.
The Hidden Cove Tournament is located at Fune's Refuge and becomes available after completing the "Jin From Yarikawa" mission. The tournament features four distinct fights, culminating in a showdown with Sao the Crimson Fisherman, the most formidable adversary of the event.

As the final opponent in the Hidden Cove Tournament, Sao the Crimson Fisherman presents a tougher challenge compared to his predecessors. His diverse array of moves includes modified versions of attacks players have encountered earlier in the tournament. Despite this complexity, Sao's fighting style can be anticipated with careful observation and is most effectively countered with parries and counterattacks.
Sao often begins his attack sequence with a signature Heavy Attack, which sweeps low and then flicks dirt into the player’s face. This move is well-telegraphed and can be dodged with a quick tap of the dodge button. After this initial strike, Sao may follow up with a rapid attack that can be blocked or parried. Alternatively, he might attempt to stun Jin by tossing a sake bottle, which can be avoided with a rolling dodge, followed by another quick attack that can also be blocked or parried.

For players on Easy or Medium difficulty, the strategy is straightforward. Equip the Wind Stance (the third stance) and repeatedly use Jump Attacks when close to Sao. His slower reaction time at this level makes it easier to land hits using this tactic.
Maintain close proximity to Sao throughout the fight to prevent him from gaining momentum. Staying within close range ensures you consistently land hits and keep control of the battle.
In Lethal Mode, however, this method proves ineffective. Sao will start blocking overhead attacks with near-perfect accuracy and frequently gain the upper hand in combat exchanges.

For Hard and Lethal difficulties, equip the Water Stance (the second stance) and ensure you have unlocked the Surging Strikes ability. This ability enables Jin to perform 5-6 rapid strikes in quick succession, which is crucial for defeating Sao at these higher difficulties.
Begin the fight by waiting for Sao to execute his unblockable sweeping attack, then dodge away. Continue dodging his follow-up attacks (typically three or four) until he pauses. Once Sao stands still, use Surging Strikes immediately; timing is critical. If Sao starts an attack and you notice a red glint but haven’t begun charging Surging Strikes yet, dodge and reset. If you’re ready with Surging Strikes when the red glint appears, proceed with the attack for a higher chance of landing a hit.
If Sao begins to weave and dodge your attacks during Surging Strikes, persist with your assault. He may occasionally miss a dodge, presenting an opportunity to land a hit.
To maximize effectiveness, use the long dodge (double tap) to create distance from Sao before deploying Surging Strikes. This strategy helps avoid Sao’s quick counterattacks during your charge-up period.
Equipping the Charm of Mizu-no-Kami can also be beneficial, as it makes perfect dodges easier to achieve and can trigger during the duel, enabling Jin to land an additional hit.
Upon defeating Sao, players will earn the rewards of the Hidden Cove Tournament, which include a substantial increase in Iki Island Legend, 3 Silk, the Hidden Heart sword set, and access to the Crimson Dye Merchant.
