On September 17, Starfield received a substantial update, version 1.14.68, which introduces numerous enhancements and fixes across gameplay systems, quests, and user interface elements.
Bethesda has been consistent with major patches for its sci-fi RPG, releasing updates approximately every six weeks. The latest, update 1.13.61, debuted in late August 2024 and introduced the REV-8 rover, marking the game's first land vehicle.
Following closely on the heels of the previous update, version 1.14.68 was released on September 17. This experimental update is currently available only to Starfield players on PC who have the game through Steam and are willing to switch to the beta branch of the game.
Typically, Bethesda takes one to two weeks to transition beta updates to the stable channel, making them accessible to all PC players and Xbox Series X/S users. If this pattern continues, the 1.14.68 update should be available on the stable channel just before the Shattered Space expansion releases on September 30.
The 1.14.68 update brings a host of gameplay tweaks and fixes. Notably, the Annihilator Particle Beam's damage-over-time effect now excludes Starfield's companions. EM weapons have also been adjusted to affect robots and turrets. Additionally, Autumn Macmillan will no longer repeat herself when discussing her sister. For modders, the Creation Kit now features an automated tool for generating distant level-of-detail (LOD) models.
While the update is not yet available to Xbox players, its patch notes include specific fixes for Xbox consoles. These include the removal of a debug string seen during save uploads to customer service and ensuring the 60fps frame rate setting under Xbox Display Settings functions correctly.
- Settings: A new option in the Ship Builder allows players to toggle the Flip Merge action behavior.
- REV-8 Fixes: The update includes nine specific fixes for the REV-8 vehicle, alongside a dozen location changes focusing on texture updates and collision detection improvements.
- General Enhancements: Performance and stability improvements, visual upgrades, and various bug fixes are included, such as resolving issues with lighting, weapon models, and camera behavior.
