Starfield enthusiasts are raving about a specific piece of dialogue from the Shattered Space DLC that lets players put a chatty Va'ruun merchant in their place while also calling them out for being overly talkative. This offhand comment, heard shortly after starting the new expansion, has garnered attention for its quirky charm and self-referential humor.
Released on September 30, Starfield: Shattered Space arrived just weeks after the game celebrated its first anniversary. While the expansion received mixed reviews from both players and critics, several elements within it have been widely praised.
Spoilers Ahead for Starfield: Shattered Space
One standout moment is a line that players can choose after encountering Nalada Bradi, the vendor at the Va'ruun Depository. Upon meeting her, Nalada quickly begins to share her personal troubles, but one potential response allows the player to retort, “I don’t need to hear your life story; I just want to buy some goods.”
This witty comeback has elicited laughter from many players, as a lively segment of the community expressed their enjoyment when it surfaced on the front page of the game’s largest subreddit in early October 2024.
For those who missed this amusing exchange, the Va'ruun Depository can be found in the heart of Dazra, the capital of House Va'ruun, located on the new planet Va'ruun'kai introduced in Shattered Space. Specifically, the store sits on the eastern side of a square just north of the Dazra spaceship landing area, separated by a single wall. Nalada Bradi offers nearly two dozen resources and materials, along with three unique lab outfits and various healing items.
While it's entertaining to shut down her excessive storytelling, listening to Nalada's issues can be beneficial. Doing so leads players to the “Sympathy for the Living” quest, which is regarded as one of the best side missions in Shattered Space. This quest embraces the horror elements effectively and rewards players with a generous 30% discount at the Va'ruun Depository, among other prizes.
Despite the fondness many players have for the sarcastic retort to Nalada, there has been some criticism of the expansion's overall writing. A vocal segment of the fanbase has labeled Starfield: Shattered Space as yet another story centered around a closed faction that quickly becomes reliant on the protagonist, deeming this premise uninspired.
