The Psychic Spectacular event in Pokémon GO for 2024 introduces Hatenna for the first time. This Psychic-type Pokémon, along with its evolutions, Hattrem and Hatterene, will be available to all players with increased spawn rates for a limited time.
Starting September 18, 2024, during the Psychic Spectacular event, players will have several ways to encounter Hatenna in Pokémon GO. With Hatterene gaining the Fairy-type in its final evolution, it could become a useful option in PvP battles or as a powerful ally in raids against Dragon-type Legendary Pokémon. Many players may also wonder whether the shiny forms of the Hatenna line will be part of the event. This guide provides all the details.
According to the Pokémon GO Live Blog, players can encounter Hatenna in the wild, by completing Field Research Tasks, or by hatching 7 km eggs during the event. There is also an option to purchase a paid Timed Research pass, which includes an encounter with Hatenna, along with other bonuses like Incubators and Star Pieces. Be sure to complete the Timed Research before the event ends on September 22, 2024, at 8 PM local time. Although Hattrem and Hatterene are only obtainable through evolution, Niantic might introduce them as event encounters in the future.
Hatenna is a Psychic-type Pokémon with a maximum CP of 910. While its stats are balanced, they are not particularly impressive, with 98 ATK, 93 DEF, and 123 STA. Evolving it into Hatterene, however, significantly improves its stats, making it a more formidable choice in battles.
During events like Psychic Spectacular, which increase Pokémon spawn rates, you can enhance your chances of finding Hatenna by using items like Incense and Lure Modules. If the weather is favorable, you can also benefit from Weather Boost effects. Follow these steps to increase Hatenna’s wild spawn rate during the event:
1. Locate a PokéStop in an area experiencing windy weather.
2. Attach a Lure Module to the PokéStop.
3. Activate an Incense or Daily Incense.
4. Walk around the area and wait for Hatenna to spawn.
Another method for obtaining Hatenna is by completing the various Field Research tasks that will be available during the Psychic Spectacular event. Keep an eye out for tasks that guarantee a Hatenna encounter, as this will be one of the more reliable ways to catch this Psychic-type Pokémon.
Players who prefer hatching Pokémon can also find Hatenna in 7 km eggs during the event. To speed up the hatching process, you can use Super Incubators to reduce the walking distance by half. Alternatively, you might save your eggs for a future Community Day event when Niantic often reduces hatching distances further, making it even easier to hatch Pokémon.
Once you've caught Hatenna, you can evolve it into Hattrem and then into Hatterene using Hatenna Candy. Here’s what you need to evolve them:
- Evolve Hatenna into Hattrem: 25 Hatenna Candy
- Evolve Hattrem into Hatterene: 100 Hatenna Candy
Hatterene’s dual Psychic/Fairy typing makes it one of the better Fairy-type options in the game. While its max CP of 3198 isn’t groundbreaking, its dual-typing grants it bonuses in windy and cloudy weather. Hatterene also boasts a respectable 237 ATK, along with 182 DEF and 149 STA. Its diverse move set gives it an advantage over other Fairy-types, with fast attacks like Psycho Cut and Charm, alongside powerful charged moves such as Psychic and Dazzling Gleam. For additional type coverage, it can even learn Power Whip.
When Niantic debuts new Pokémon in Pokémon GO, they sometimes release their shiny versions at the same time, but this is rare. Unfortunately, the shiny forms of Hatenna, Hattrem, and Hatterene will not be available during the Psychic Spectacular event. However, this doesn’t rule out their shiny debut in future events, so players may have to be patient for a while longer.
