A recent leak suggests that Genshin Impact may introduce its Lantern Rite characters in Version 5.4, potentially shortening the upcoming update cycle. The Lantern Rite, a highlight in Genshin Impact's annual calendar, mirrors Teyvat's celebration of the Lunar New Year. Historically, this event has featured in the fifth content update of each region, offering players a chance to choose a free 4-Star character from Liyue.
In Version 4.4, the Lantern Rite characters Gaming and Xianyun were well-received, with Xianyun notably enhancing Plunge Attack teams. Following this, Version 5.4 might face high expectations. Rumors suggest that Madame Ping will be the 5-Star character featured in the upcoming Lantern Rite.
According to Iris Leaks, Version 5.4 will not only showcase the Lantern Rite but also introduce Madame Ping and a new 4-Star Catalyst character from Liyue. Madame Ping, rumored to be named Lanya, will be a 5-Star Hydro Polearm user with a focus on Plunge Attacks. Both Lantern Rite characters are expected to follow the Medium Female model, with Ping’s design reminiscent of her appearance from the Version 3.4 cinematic.
While Iris Leaks provide intriguing details, these claims should be viewed with caution. If the Lantern Rite does occur in Version 5.4, adjustments would need to be made to accommodate this within the current schedule. Typically, the Lantern Rite is set to coincide with the latter half of Version 5.3. However, with Mavuika and Citlali slated for the Version 5.3 Event Banners, this might make the update overly congested.
One feasible solution could involve shortening Version 5.2 by two weeks, thereby aligning Version 5.4 with the Lunar New Year. This adjustment could be reasonable since Version 5.2 lacks Archon Quests, making it a suitable candidate for this change. Alternatively, shortening Version 5.1, which introduces Xilonen as the sole new character, could also be a viable option. Regardless of the approach, players should remember that subsequent Lantern Rites have consistently introduced new 4-Star Liyue characters, adding to the excitement surrounding these events.
