In Black Myth: Wukong, players will come across a variety of items and rewards scattered throughout the game. One of the resources that the Destined One quickly accumulates is gold. Throughout the campaign, players will find Buddha statues, though their structural integrity often leaves much to be desired. These statues break apart, revealing Pieces of Gold—small fragments chipped from the statues' faces. These fragments come in different sizes: tiny pieces show just the eye of a Buddha, small pieces add a broken cheek, and large pieces reveal half of a golden Buddha face.
Gold items in Black Myth: Wukong often have practical uses. For example, Gold Tree Cores and Fine Gold Thread are essential for crafting weapons and armor. Although it’s unclear if most gold pieces share similar utility, players might hesitate to sell them, wondering if they'll regret it later. The Arhat Gold Piece, unlike other pieces, is marked as a key item and depicts a less damaged Buddha face, raising further questions about its use.
For the tiny, small, and large Pieces of Gold, there’s no reason not to sell them at Keeper’s Shrines. These pieces function purely as currency. Selling them converts them into the game's standard currency, Will, which can then be used to upgrade your character and purchase equipment. Think of these gold pieces like the Golden Runes in Elden Ring: they’re just a convenient way to carry more currency in your inventory. Unlike in Elden Ring, where players risk dropping items upon death, Black Myth: Wukong has no such penalty for converting gold to Will, so there's no downside to cashing in.
Fortunately, Black Myth: Wukong prevents players from accidentally selling unique items that cannot be reacquired. The Arhat Gold Piece is one such item—it doesn't appear in the sell menu at Keeper’s Shrines. Instead, this piece is crucial for accessing a hidden area in Chapter Two. Players obtain the Arhat Gold Piece after defeating the First Prince of the Flowing Sands, a Yaoguai Chief in the region. To unlock Chapter Two’s secret area, players need to deliver a Sobering Stone and Jade Lotus to the Drunken Boar before acquiring the Arhat Gold Piece. This sequence of events triggers the fight that opens up the secret area.
Black Myth: Wukong is filled with secrets and missable content, which can make players second-guess decisions like selling items. However, there’s no need to worry about selling items that the game allows you to sell. For instance, rice cocoons can also be sold, and while they do have another use, players can always acquire more if needed. While the game offers plenty to collect, holding onto large, small, and tiny pieces of gold won’t benefit the Destined One in the long run. Selling these pieces of gold is a safe and efficient way to gather the resources needed for progression.
