After players complete The Dark Castle and The Remembered, the final two quests in Disney Dreamlight Valley’s initial storyline, they will see the credits roll, marking the end of this magical chapter. However, there's one last quest to embark on after the credits finish. To kick off this new adventure, players need to revisit the Dark Castle using the portal located in the Plaza's center.

Once inside the Dark Castle, players will find a square teleporter to the right of the realm doors on the first floor. Step onto this teleporter to access a different part of the castle. In this new area, players will discover the Orb of Unity on the ground. Collect the orb and follow the steps outlined below to initiate and complete the quest "Between a Skull Rock and a Hard Place" in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

How to Start the “Between a Skull Rock and a Hard Place” Quest

To begin the quest, players must first gather the Orb of Unity from the Dark Castle. With the orb safely in their inventory, head to Dazzle Beach and proceed to the island located near Skull Rock.

On this island, players will encounter the Pillar of Unity, the last of the corrupted pillars in Dreamlight Valley. Approach this pillar and interact with it. Next, place the Orb of Unity into the designated slot to cleanse the pillar. This action will trigger a brief cutscene, during which runes appear around the Pillar of Unity, marking the start of the "Between a Skull Rock and a Hard Place" quest.

How to Solve the “Between a Skull Rock and a Hard Place” Quest

Disney enthusiasts might recognize the runes as characters from the Atlantean language, made famous in Disney’s Atlantis: The Lost Empire. These runes have appeared in earlier quests and are integral to solving the puzzle of “Between a Skull Rock and a Hard Place.” The solution revolves around all seven pillars and their corresponding Orbs scattered throughout Dreamlight Valley.

Each orb collected in previous quests contains an Atlantean character glowing at its center, representing the first letter of each pillar’s name. For example, the Orb embedded in the Pillar of Friendship displays the Atlantean character for the letter "F," while the Orb of Unity features the character for "U," and so forth.

Where to Place the Pillars on Skull Rock Island

To decode the mysterious runes, players need to relocate each biome’s pillar to the island near Skull Rock and position them over the rune that matches the character on each pillar’s Orb. To move a pillar, enter Furniture Mode and minimize the Furniture menu for better visibility of the valley and its objects.

Players can zoom in and out of the overworld view as needed and scroll across the map to find the pillars in each biome. To pick up a pillar, simply click on it and drag it to the desired location. Once a pillar is selected, transport it back to the island near Skull Rock and place it atop the correct corresponding glowing rune.

Here is the proper order for placing each pillar around the Pillar of Unity on Skull Rock Island, starting from the symbol directly above the Pillar of Unity and moving clockwise:

1. Pillar of Friendship (found in the Peaceful Meadow biome)

2. Pillar of Trust (found in the Glade of Trust biome)

3. Pillar of Nurturing (found in the Sunlit Plateau biome)

4. Pillar of Remembrance (found in the Forgotten Lands biome)

5. Pillar of Love (found in the Frosted Heights biome)

6. Pillar of Courage (found in the Forest of Valor biome)

7. Pillar of Power (found in the Dazzle Beach biome)

Once all seven pillars are positioned around the Pillar of Unity, a short cutscene will play, revealing the mouth of Skull Rock opening wider, as if inviting players to explore its hidden secrets. However, the adventure does not continue just yet.

Players must then visit Merlin to report this event. He expresses his concern and confusion over the phenomenon and informs players that he will need to conduct further research. This marks the conclusion of the main story quest.
