Metaphor: ReFantazio - How to Defeat Psyocropos

Metaphor: ReFantazio offers an expansive, semi-open world where players journey through dungeons and villages via the Gauntlet Runner. Alongside the main story, players encounter numerous side quests and bounties, each leading to intense boss fights that require tactical thinking and smart preparation.

One of the standout encounters is with The Greater One-Eyed Scoundrel, a boss challenge available midway through August. Located in Scoundrel Hold near Grand Trad, this guide provides key strategies to help you conquer this formidable foe, ensuring you’re well-equipped for the battle.

With no time limit on this quest, players can choose to complete it later after tackling other time-sensitive objectives.

How to Begin the Greater One-Eyed Scoundrel Bounty

After reaching Virga Island and advancing through the initial storyline, you’ll gain access to the local village shops. From here, use Fast Travel to head over to Grand Trad, where you can visit the Recruitment Centre. Speak with the Dispatcher there, who will inform you about a recent sighting of Psyocropos and a group of Goborns in Scoundrel’s Hold. Accept The Greater One-Eyed Scoundrel Bounty, then gather additional details from the Informant.

Set a course for Scoundrel’s Hold, stopping at Ligno along the way to upgrade your gear. Here, you’ll find weapons designed for the Masked Dancer Archetype, which can deal serious damage and likely serve as an upgrade from your current equipment—well worth the investment if you have funds to spare. When you arrive at the dungeon, a person outside will warn you: using Staffs and Maces can provoke enemy aggression.

For this reason, it’s recommended to avoid bringing Archetypes from the Mage, Summoner, or Healer classes.

- Hulkenberg - Dark Knight

Psyocropos, a Level 52 boss, is joined by two Goborn allies during the fight. The boss is vulnerable to Wind and Physical Pierce attacks, making Seeker and Gunner Archetypes especially effective here. Hulkenberg, equipped as a Dark Knight, can provide crucial Physical Pierce attacks and enable various Synthesis combos. If you prefer a different setup, be sure to use Inherit Skills to make the most of the boss's weaknesses.

At the start of the battle, Psyocropos opens with Soul Scream, adding four turn icons, and follows up with Charge to boost its attack power. While its single-target attacks are manageable, using Knight’s Proclamation on Hulkenberg will help draw Psyocropos’s attacks towards her, protecting the rest of the team from being overwhelmed. The two Goborns can perform multi-target attacks with varying affinities, so it’s wise to eliminate them first.
