In a significant update, World of Warcraft has announced that defeating Zevkir in his lair will no longer count toward completion of a delve for the Great Vault. As a result, players can no longer rely on farming Zevkir’s Lair to fill the bottom row of their Great Vault.
Zevkir serves as the final boss in World of Warcraft: The War Within’s first delve season. This formidable Nerubian creature can invade various delves across the game, similar to the Butcher in Diablo 4. Players who access his lair have the opportunity to defeat him for rare loot and unique upgrades. However, recent changes have altered how players can earn rewards from this encounter.
As of the weekly reset on October 8, clearing Zevkir’s Lair will no longer contribute to the Great Vault, the weekly grid that players can utilize to earn gear by completing various in-game challenges. This means that players can no longer defeat Zevkir multiple times to fill the bottom row of their Great Vault and must seek out other delves or world activities to earn their rewards.
Delves in World of Warcraft can vary in difficulty and typically take between 10 to 20 minutes to complete, depending on the objectives and layout. In contrast, Zevkir’s Lair offers a straightforward encounter that can be finished in just a few minutes. This change was implemented to prevent players of a certain power level from repeatedly farming Zevkir, enabling them to quickly complete their weekly challenges.
From a game balance perspective, this adjustment makes sense. If one delve takes significantly less time than others, players are likely to favor that option over engaging with a variety of content. Constantly farming a single boss undermines the purpose of delves, making this change a necessary step for the game’s health.
Despite the rationale behind this adjustment, many World of Warcraft players have expressed their dissatisfaction. Some fans, particularly those who prefer focusing on raiding or Mythic dungeons, appreciated having an accessible way to fill their Great Vault’s bottom row. The thought of spending additional time clearing other delves is not appealing to everyone.
Fortunately, players can still choose one item from the Great Vault each week, allowing them to obtain powerful gear even if they prefer to focus on other aspects of the game. This means that while delves may have become less appealing for some, there are still avenues for players to acquire the gear they desire while engaging with the content they enjoy.
