Niantic has revealed that Pokémon GO’s next Research Day event will take place on September 22, featuring Normal/Psychic-type Oranguru and Fighting-type Passimian. Similar to previous Timed Research events, players can complete Field Research tasks to earn rewards and increase their chances of encountering rare Pokémon, including possible Shiny variants.
As part of the ongoing “Max Out” season, which kicked off on September 10 and introduced Dynamax Pokémon into the game, this event continues the theme of Galar region Pokémon and Dynamax forms. The season runs until December 3 and includes a lineup of limited-time events, such as Community Days and the upcoming Psychic Spectacular. One of the early highlights of the Max Out season, this Research Day will focus on primate-themed Pokémon from past events.
Scheduled for Sunday, September 22, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM local time, the Oranguru and Passimian Research Day gives players a chance to spin Photo Discs at PokéStops to receive new Field Research tasks. Completing these tasks will reward players with encounters with Oranguru and Passimian. For the first time in Pokémon GO, there’s also a chance to encounter a Shiny Passimian. Additionally, certain wild Pokémon like Mankey, Aipom, Slakoth, Chimchar, and Grookey will spawn more frequently during the event, increasing the odds of finding their Shiny forms as well.
Key Details for Pokémon GO Research Day: Oranguru and Passimian
- Date and Time: Sunday, September 22, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM local time.
- Field Research Rewards: Encounters with Oranguru, Passimian, and other rewards.
- Wild Spawns: Mankey, Aipom, Slakoth, Chimchar, and Grookey will appear more often in the wild.
For those seeking even more rewards, Niantic will offer a special event-exclusive paid Timed Research, available for $2 through the in-game shop. This Timed Research will provide extra encounters with Oranguru and Passimian, along with additional rewards. However, the Shiny encounter rates for both Pokémon will remain the same as in the free Field Research tasks. Players must complete and claim their rewards by 5:00 PM local time on September 22.
As an added bonus, players can purchase the Timed Research and gift it to friends who have achieved a Friendship level of Great Friends or higher, using Pokémon GO’s gifting system. It's important to note that these purchases are non-refundable, and gift tickets cannot be bought with PokéCoins.
Beyond this Research Day event, players can look forward to more exciting events throughout the Max Out season. On September 14, the Ponyta Community Day event will take place, offering boosted encounter rates for Ponyta, with a chance to catch a Shiny version. Additionally, several new Pokémon will make their Pokémon GO debut as part of this season, adding even more excitement to the game.
With plenty of upcoming activities, including the much-anticipated debut of new Pokémon, players have a lot to look forward to as the Max Out season continues.
