Larian Studios has offered fans a glimpse into what they can expect from upcoming updates for Baldur's Gate 3. Even after more than a year since its release, the game continues to receive significant updates, with one of the largest arriving just recently.
The latest update, Patch 7, introduced new "Evil Ending" cinematics and included numerous bug fixes, enhancing the overall gameplay experience. While PC players can already download this patch, console users are still eagerly awaiting its release, which is expected in October. Though Patch 7 is one of the final major updates for the critically acclaimed RPG, Larian Studios has confirmed that more content is still on the way.
Among the most anticipated upcoming features are crossplay and a photo mode, both of which have been highly requested by the community. Although specific details on other future updates have not been revealed, it's clear that Baldur's Gate 3 will continue to receive support for a while longer before Larian shifts focus entirely to new projects.
- Photo Mode: Capture in-game moments in style with a brand-new photo mode, allowing players to freeze-frame their adventures.
- Crossplay: Soon, PC and console players will be able to join forces or compete with each other thanks to the much-anticipated crossplay feature.
- Bug Fixes & General Updates: Larian Studios continues to fine-tune the game with additional bug fixes and improvements, though specific changes remain under wraps.
Looking ahead, Larian has already begun work on its next projects. While there has been no official announcement regarding what’s next, the studio has confirmed that it will not be working on Baldur's Gate 4. In a shift away from Dungeons & Dragons, Larian’s next title is shrouded in mystery, leaving fans to speculate on what the studio has in store.
Given Larian’s history, it’s likely the next game will follow a similar turn-based RPG style, as seen in Baldur’s Gate 3 and the Divinity series. However, there's always a chance that Larian could surprise fans with something completely different.
Historically, Larian's release schedule has been spaced out over several years, with Divinity: Original Sin and its sequel separated by three years, and Baldur's Gate 3 arriving six years after Original Sin 2. With support for Baldur's Gate 3 continuing well beyond its initial release, it’s possible that fans may face an even longer wait for Larian’s next big release.
Regardless of the wait, Baldur's Gate 3 has set an incredibly high bar, and the gaming community will be eagerly watching to see if Larian’s next project can rise to the occasion and exceed expectations.
