Black Myth: Wukong – Tips for Finding and Defeating Captain Kalpa-Wave

After navigating through the Pagoda Realm, exploring Turtle Island, and besting Non-White, players will arrive in the Forest of Felicity. From there, they can proceed to the New Thunderclap Temple, the final area of Chapter 3, where they will encounter Captain Kalpa-Wave.

Captain Kalpa-Wave, a Yaoguai Chief, stands guard at The New West entrance to the Temple. This essential story boss is relatively straightforward compared to other bosses in Black Myth: Wukong, boasting a limited attack repertoire.

As one of the four captains players must defeat to complete the Spirit’s quest, here's how to find and conquer Captain Kalpa-Wave.

Locating Captain Kalpa-Wave

Upon reaching the Forest of Felicity within the Valley of Ecstasy, make your way through the wooden gate. Continue along the path, passing through additional wooden Torii gates, until you reach the Longevity Road Keeper’s Shrine.

From there, head towards the statues and take a right. Climb a few sets of stairs, and you’ll notice an orange glow marking the Temple entrance. Approach this entrance, and the blood around the glow will coalesce, summoning Captain Kalpa-Wave.

Since Captain Kalpa-Wave blocks access to the Temple, defeating him is crucial to completing the Fox quest, which activates when you examine the body near the Forest of Felicity Keeper’s Shrine.

Strategies for Beating Captain Kalpa-Wave

Captain Kalpa-Wave begins the battle with stomp attacks. These can vary, including two-hit and three-hit stomp combos, with the third hit delayed. Additionally, he performs a powerful jumping stomp that deals substantial damage.

Periodically, the boss will summon Blood Crystal Flowers from the ground, creating damaging blood pools. When these crystals appear, lure Captain Kalpa-Wave away from them to minimize damage and focus on attacking.

Kalpa-Wave also launches blood projectiles as he flaps his wings. These projectiles are not homing, making them relatively easy to dodge. To ensure victory, avoid standing in blood pools and use skills like Immobilize and A Pluck of Many effectively.

Utilize the Charging Heavy Attack to your advantage. As you maneuver around the arena, charge your Stance, and execute the attack when the opportunity arises. The boss is unlikely to interrupt your attack animation, making this strategy effective.
