Deciding whether to save or kill Mizora in Baldur’s Gate 3 can be a perplexing choice, with outcomes that aren’t always straightforward. As an evil-aligned character introduced in Act 1, Mizora plays a significant role in Wyll’s questline. How you handle her can be tricky, and the decision may not always align with conventional reasoning. This is similar to decisions you might face, such as supporting Shadowheart in her quest to become a Dark Justiciar.
Warning: Spoilers Ahead for Act 2 and Wyll’s Questline in Baldur’s Gate 3
In Baldur’s Gate 3, Mizora, a devil, has made a pact with Wyll. She offered him power in exchange for eternal servitude and sent him on various tasks to further her own goals. For players roleplaying as good-aligned characters, eliminating Mizora might seem like the right choice. However, the results might not what you expect. The same uncertainty applies if you choose to save her.
Before deciding her fate, it’s crucial to understand Mizora’s background. Mizora is a powerful cambion serving the archdevil Zariel, who was also Karlach’s former master before Karlach fled her infernal duties. Mizora’s true significance lies in her connection to Wyll’s storyline. During a critical moment when Wyll was trying to prevent cultists from summoning the dragon Tiamat, Mizora offered him a pact. He would gain the power to thwart the cultists in exchange for his eternal servitude.
This pact also forbade Wyll from discussing these events, creating tension with his father, Ulder Ravengard, leading to Wyll’s exile from Baldur’s Gate. Mizora tasked Wyll with capturing Karlach, who had deserted Zariel’s army. Your choice here affects Wyll’s fate: killing Karlach earns Wyll the Infernal Robe, while sparing her results in Mizora’s punishment, transforming Wyll into a devil with horns.
In Act 2, while approaching Moonrise Towers, Mizora projects herself and commands Wyll to free an important asset imprisoned inside. Failure to comply means Wyll will be sent to Avernus. After navigating Moonrise Towers and part of the Ketheric Thorm boss fight, players can explore the Mind Flayer Colony, where Mizora is imprisoned in a pod. Here, you can choose to either release or eliminate her.
Opting to kill Mizora while she’s in the Mind Flayer pod will result in her immediate death. However, this choice has dire consequences: Wyll will also die and be sent to Avernus as punishment for breaking his contract. If Wyll is part of your party, you’ll witness a cutscene where he burns to ashes. You can loot his remains for his items, but losing Wyll means his companion quests and Karlach’s storyline progress are halted. Additionally, Mizora is not truly dead; devils killed outside Avernus are merely transported back to their realm. Therefore, killing Mizora merely sends her back to the Hells, angers her, and may complicate your efforts in Act 3, especially in rescuing Duke Ravengard from the Absolute cult. Killing her also precludes the possibility of romancing her, which is an option if you save her.
Even if you choose not to actively kill Mizora but ignore her, it counts as a death. You’ll receive a warning before the final encounter with Ketheric Thorm. If you enter without saving Mizora, she dies, leading to Wyll’s transformation into a Lemure in Avernus, potentially ending the game if Wyll is your main character. This decision can be crucial, emphasizing the value of save scumming, though it isn’t available in Honour Mode.
Choosing to save Mizora changes the outcome significantly. Wyll remains alive and part of your party, allowing you to complete his story missions and achieve his and Karlach’s ending. Mizora will honor her part of the deal, though she will release Wyll only after six months, not immediately.
After saving Mizora, you can attempt to persuade her to reward you using a Charisma check. If successful, she will grant your party leader the Infernal Rapier, a powerful weapon capable of summoning a Cambion in battle. This is currently the only way to acquire the Infernal Rapier in Baldur’s Gate 3. Additionally, Mizora’s assistance in Act 3 will be invaluable in locating Duke Ravengard, rather than attempting to kill him herself.
Saving Mizora also opens the possibility of romancing her in Act 3. Depending on your dialogue choices, you may engage in a romance scene with her, though this can affect your relationships with other companions. While romancing Mizora is optional, saving her offers the chance to explore this unique narrative path.
In summary, whether to save or kill Mizora is a choice that impacts both Wyll’s fate and the broader narrative of Baldur’s Gate 3. Consider the ramifications carefully, as they can shape your story in significant ways.
