Metaphor: ReFantazio - Unlocking the Gunner Archetype

In Metaphor: ReFantazio, there are 47 unique Archetypes for players to unlock, each offering diverse abilities to enhance your gameplay. As you progress, your ally More plays a crucial role in helping you discover these powers by assigning quests that are key to ranking up and leveling your Archetypes. To aid in the Protagonist's development, More will continually present you with challenges to boost his follower level, centering around unlocking and mastering various Archetypes.

While the first quest naturally grants players the Healer Archetype through the main storyline, More's second challenge, titled "More's Task Chapter One: Ordeal," focuses on unlocking the Gunner Archetype. Unlike the Healer, the Gunner Archetype is missable unless you know where to find it.

Steps to Unlock the Gunner Archetype in Metaphor: ReFantazio

The Gunner Archetype belongs to Neuras, the driver of your Gauntlet Runner. Although Neuras is introduced earlier in the game's story during the Tournament for the Throne, you won't be able to recruit him as a follower until after June 29 in the game's timeline. During your journey to Martira, you’ll trigger the quest called "Providing A Spark," where the ultimate reward is unlocking the Gunner Archetype and recruiting Neuras as a follower.

To begin the process, head to the main fountain in Martira and locate the Gloomy Youth to initiate the quest "Hatching A Plan." Completing this step allows you to travel to Komero using the table on your Gauntlet Runner.

Keep in mind that traveling to Komero will take a full day for the round trip. Komero itself is not a walkable town; upon arrival, a brief cutscene will unfold, during which you’ll obtain a relic and a notebook. Returning these items to Neuras will trigger another automatic cutscene. By the end of this event, Neuras officially joins your team as a follower, enabling you to summon the Gunner Archetype when you return to Akademia.

Gunner Archetype Abilities and Gameplay Benefits

The Gunner Archetype is a versatile choice, excelling in ranged combat with its powerful crossbow attacks. When the Protagonist equips this Archetype, any kills or stuns performed in the overworld will restore HP to the entire party, functioning similarly to how the Mage Archetype restores MP.

One of the Gunner's main strengths is its ability to launch basic attacks from the backline without sacrificing damage output. The Archetype specializes in dealing Pierce damage with its standard attacks and most of its skills, making it ideal for long-range strategies. In fact, certain abilities of the Gunner are even more effective when the character is positioned in the backline.

Completing More's quest not only unlocks the Gunner Archetype but also rewards you with five Hero's Fruit items, which provide a quick boost to strengthening your new Archetype, giving you a head start in optimizing its potential.
