EA and BioWare have officially revealed the five difficulty levels that players can expect in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The development team aims to create an experience that is as accessible as possible, allowing all players to immerse themselves in the game and its narrative in the manner that suits them best. Alongside these five difficulty options, a modular difficulty setting with various customizable features will also be available.
After nearly a decade of development, Dragon Age: The Veilguard has finally gone gold and is set to launch globally on October 31. The previous installment in the series, Dragon Age: Inquisition, debuted in 2014 and achieved remarkable success, selling over 12 million copies.
With the upcoming release of The Veilguard, BioWare is keen on replicating that success. To ensure that players of all skill levels have a rewarding experience, the team has worked diligently to provide an array of difficulty settings tailored to different playstyles.
Initially, EA and BioWare had introduced four difficulty options for The Veilguard, but they have since expanded this to include five distinct settings and a fully customizable option. From easiest to hardest, the difficulty levels are: Storyteller, Keeper, Adventurer, Underdog, and Nightmare. The Unbound difficulty offers the most flexibility, allowing players to craft their gameplay experience across a variety of aspects.
- Storyteller: This setting is perfect for those who wish to experience the story without the challenge of combat.
- Keeper: Designed for players looking for a balanced experience, this mode emphasizes strategy and party composition over quick reflexes.
- Adventurer: Similar to Keeper, this difficulty provides a well-rounded challenge without overwhelming players.
- Underdog: Comparable to the Hard difficulty in previous games, this setting requires thoughtful planning and tactical execution.
- Nightmare: As the name suggests, this level is meant for the most hardcore players, presenting a formidable challenge.
The Unbound difficulty allows for complete customization of gameplay settings. However, BioWare recommends starting with a curated preset for first-time players. Customizable gameplay elements include parry timing, aim assist strength, and aim snap, along with options to adjust enemy aggression, damage, health, resistance, and vulnerabilities. There’s even a feature to prevent death entirely, enabling players to enjoy a more relaxed combat experience.
Since the announcement of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, EA and BioWare have been dedicated to enhancing accessibility for players, not only through diverse difficulty settings but also with numerous accessibility options. These range from customizable subtitles to audio aids and full-screen color filters, ensuring that they are delivering on their commitment to inclusivity in gaming.
