As Pokémon Scarlet and Violet celebrates its second year since launch, the game continues to thrive with fresh events, new creatures, and collectible items for players. Significant changes have also occurred in the competitive scene with the introduction of Legendary Pokémon and Stellar Tera, keeping the excitement alive.
One of the standout features of Generation 9 is how the main story deepens players' emotional connections with their partners, Koraidon and Miraidon. These Pokémon serve not only as companions but also as rides across the expansive regions of Paldea, Kitakami, and Blueberry Academy. However, players have been eagerly awaiting the shiny forms of Koraidon and Miraidon, which have been datamined for quite some time but have yet to be released. Fortunately, it seems that Generation 9 is poised to rectify this soon.
Shiny Legendary Pokémon are often among the most coveted creatures in the Pokémon universe due to their rarity, version exclusivity, and time-limited availability during special events. Consequently, they are highly sought after, and the mascots of Scarlet and Violet are no exception—despite their shiny forms not being accessible so far. However, there’s reason to believe that this could change between mid-October and mid-November, following patterns established by previous game releases.
To understand the possible release schedule for shiny Koraidon and Miraidon, we can look at the patterns from Generations 7 and 8, which employed similar strategies for their shiny Legendary events:
- Pokémon Sun and Moon launched on November 18, 2016.
- Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon released on November 17, 2017.
- Shiny Solgaleo and shiny Lunala were made available as a GameStop event from October 21, 2019, to November 10, 2019, accessible via code and Mystery Gift.
- Pokémon Sword and Shield debuted on November 15, 2019.
- Shiny Zacian and shiny Zamazenta had separate GameStop events, with Zacian available from October 22 to November 11, 2021, and Zamazenta from November 12 to 26, 2021.
Typically, these shiny Pokémon are distributed as version exclusives, meaning shiny Solgaleo was available in Pokémon Moon and Ultra Moon, while shiny Lunala could be obtained in Pokémon Sun and Ultra Sun. Similarly, shiny Zacian was available in Pokémon Shield, and shiny Zamazenta was featured in Pokémon Sword. Following this tradition, it’s reasonable to expect shiny Koraidon and Miraidon to be released for their opposite versions this year, likely between October and November.
Given the different timelines for the shiny Legendary events in Generations 7 and 8, it's plausible that Generation 9 could adopt either model or forge its own path. Shiny Solgaleo and Lunala were released on the last Monday of October 2019, with the event concluding on the second Sunday of November. In contrast, shiny Zacian and Zamazenta had separate release windows, with Zacian's event spanning from the last Friday of October 2021 to the second Friday of November, while Zamazenta's event ran from the second Friday of November until the last Friday of that month.
Since Fridays are typically associated with new events in the franchise—such as Tera Raid or mass outbreak events—it's likely that the shiny Koraidon and Miraidon event in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will commence on either October 18 or October 25. If both Pokémon are released simultaneously, the event could run until November 1 or 8; if they are staggered, it may extend until November 15 or 22. Although this remains speculative, it stands to reason that Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will soon launch a significant giveaway of Generation 9's shiny mascots as the games approach their third anniversary.
