Fans of Horizon Zero Dawn can rejoice, as the upcoming remastered edition for PlayStation 5 will feature a save file transfer option from the PS4 version. This is fantastic news for gamers who experienced Aloy’s journey on the PS4 at launch and are eager to continue their adventure with enhanced graphics or start anew with New Game+.
During the recent September 2024 State of Play, it was announced that Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered will be available for both PlayStation 5 and PC on October 31. While the original game's graphics were impressive at its release in 2017, they have started to show their age, especially when compared to its sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, released in 2022.
In a blog post on the PlayStation Blog, Guerrilla Games studio director Jan-Bart van Beek confirmed that players who owned Horizon Zero Dawn on PS4 would be able to use their old save files in the remastered version. This means fans can dive back into the game with the option of New Game+ or explore endgame areas with the new Photo Mode.
Players who purchased the original PS4 version of Horizon Zero Dawn can upgrade to the remaster for just $9.99, provided the game is in their PlayStation library. The remaster promises a substantial upgrade in graphical fidelity, reportedly matching the quality seen in Horizon Forbidden West. Additionally, it will feature re-recorded motion capture and dialogue, offering a more polished experience than many anticipated.
Guerrilla Games has also confirmed that Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered will incorporate accessibility features introduced in Horizon Forbidden West, aligning with Sony's commitment to inclusivity in its latest titles. Gamers can look forward to familiar features such as haptic feedback, assist toggles, and remappable controls, enhancing gameplay for a wider audience.
Although initial reactions to the remaster were somewhat mixed following recent leaks, it appears to serve as a welcome stopgap for fans of the franchise while they await the next installment. Earlier this year, Guerrilla Games announced that a sequel to Horizon Forbidden West is in development, but details remain scarce, leaving fans eager for further updates on the project.
With these new features and updates, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is set to provide an exciting experience for both returning players and newcomers alike.
