Ubisoft is treating Prince of Persia enthusiasts to a unique crossover gift. As a nod to their upcoming 2024 title, The Rogue Prince of Persia, the studio is adding a special outfit to Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. Since its release, The Lost Crown has quickly positioned itself as a strong contender for Game of the Year, delighting fans of 2D action platformers and marking a triumphant return for the franchise after a long hiatus.
The second Prince of Persia game released in 2024, The Rogue Prince of Persia, entered early access in May. This title, developed in collaboration with Evil Empire (the studio spun off from Motion Twin, known for the hit roguelike Dead Cells), offers a roguelike twist on the series with vibrant 2D visuals. In contrast, The Lost Crown features a more traditional 2D metroidvania experience with a 3D art style. Currently, The Rogue Prince of Persia is exclusive to PC, though Evil Empire plans to bring it to consoles with its full 1.0 release.
Now, console gamers can experience a slice of The Rogue Prince of Persia within The Lost Crown. Ubisoft has announced that a new patch, ahead of the Mask of Darkness DLC launching next week, will introduce a Rogue Prince of Persia-themed outfit for the protagonist, Sargon. This addition complements the existing array of outfits available in The Lost Crown.
Interestingly, the new outfit retains the distinctive purple skin of The Rogue Prince of Persia's character. While this choice aligns with the art style of The Rogue Prince of Persia, it stands out in the world of The Lost Crown. The purple hue remains the outfit's most recognizable feature, given its otherwise simple design.
Some fans have been vocal about their desire to see an Assassin’s Creed-themed skin in The Lost Crown, considering the similarities between the two franchises. If Ubisoft decides to explore this idea, it will be intriguing to see whether they opt for iconic robes from characters like Altair or Ezio, or introduce Naoe’s outfit to promote the upcoming Assassin's Creed Shadows set for November.
Mark your calendars for September 17, when The Lost Crown’s Mask of Darkness DLC drops. This story expansion will unveil a new area, Radjen’s Mind Palace, and introduce fresh traversal mechanics, enemies, and more. While it's uncertain if Mask of Darkness will be the only story DLC for The Lost Crown, excitement remains high with the anticipated 1.0 release of The Rogue Prince of Persia and the ongoing Sands of Time remake.
