Mark your calendars for September 20, as Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, the creative force behind the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series, is set to unveil significant news. Known for its blend of intense crime drama and playful, over-the-top side quests, the Yakuza series delivers a unique mix of serious storytelling and whimsical activities. From RC car races and petty scams to vibrant cabaret clubs, the series is renowned for its engaging side content.

Earlier this year, it was announced that the latest updates on the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series would be revealed during the Tokyo Game Show, running from September 26 to September 29. The studio’s presentation is anticipated to take place on September 26, during the TGS livestream from 10 am to 10:50 am ET.
However, before the Tokyo Game Show kicks off, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio will provide a major reveal on September 20. This announcement, scheduled for a livestream at 3 am PT / 6 am ET / 11 am UK, will likely introduce the next installment in the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series. While it remains unclear whether this will be a new mainline title or multiple game announcements, the event promises to be a significant moment for fans.

In recent developments, Yakuza fans with a Nintendo Switch have reason to celebrate. Yakuza Kiwami, a full remake of the original Yakuza game released in 2005, will be making its debut on the Switch. Announced during a Nintendo Direct, this port will be available starting October 24. Previously released on Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC, the Switch version marks a notable milestone for the game.

The Yakuza series is known for its contrasting tones—serious narratives in the main storyline and lighthearted, humorous sidestories. Fans of the series can also look forward to a new live-action adaptation. Amazon Prime is developing a TV show titled Like a Dragon: Yakuza, which will focus on the main story beats of the series and will be released in two parts on October 25 and November 1, 2024. This adaptation promises to bring the intense drama of the Yakuza universe to a new audience, albeit without the quirky sidestories that fans have come to love.
