Konami has addressed the growing interest in bringing Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots to modern platforms. Released exclusively for PlayStation 3 in 2008, Metal Gear Solid 4 received widespread acclaim, with many considering it one of the greatest video games ever created. Despite its success, the game has remained inaccessible to those without a PS3, as there have been no remasters, remakes, or ports since its original launch.
In the wake of Hideo Kojima's departure from Konami and the subsequent hiatus of the Metal Gear Solid series, Konami is working to revitalize the franchise. The company is doing so by re-releasing classic Metal Gear Solid titles on contemporary platforms through its Master Collections. The first volume of this collection includes the original Metal Gear Solid, Sons of Liberty, Snake Eater, and the retro Metal Gear games. While the lineup for the next collection remains unconfirmed, fans are hopeful that Metal Gear Solid 4 will eventually be included.
Although Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2 has not yet been officially announced, the possibility of Metal Gear Solid 4 being part of this next installment is promising. IGN recently spoke with Konami producer Noriaki Okamura about the demand for a Metal Gear Solid 4 port. Okamura acknowledged the request, stating, "We are definitely aware of the situation with MGS4. Unfortunately, we can't reveal too much at this time," adding that the presence of the first three games in Master Collection Vol. 1 might hint at future plans.
Recent leaks have suggested that Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2 could feature MGS4, Peace Walker, and The Phantom Pain. While these rumors are intriguing, there is no confirmation yet, and fans should temper their expectations for immediate announcements. Currently, Konami is focused on another exciting project within the Metal Gear Solid series: a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3.
The remake, titled Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, promises to enhance the original game with updated graphics and significant gameplay improvements. Although there is no specific release date for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater yet, it is anticipated to launch sometime in 2025.
