Keen-eyed fans of Ghost of Tsushima have recently pointed out an intriguing detail in the logo of the upcoming sequel, Ghost of Yotei. They noticed that the logo features a specific type of gingko leaf, a familiar sight for those who explored the world of the first game. This discovery has sparked new theories about how this design element could be tied to the broader themes of the series.
The sequel to Ghost of Tsushima was officially unveiled during the latest PlayStation State of Play event in late September 2024. A three-minute trailer confirmed that the game would be set approximately 300 years after the events of the original and introduced a new protagonist named Atsu. The reveal also showcased the Ghost of Yotei logo toward the end of the trailer and announced that the game is expected to launch as a PlayStation exclusive in 2025.
Following the game's announcement, fans eagerly dissected every frame of the Ghost of Yotei trailer, uncovering subtle details and Easter eggs. Among their findings was the revelation that the logo prominently features a yellow gingko leaf within the letter "o" in "ghost." This particular leaf is instantly recognizable to those who have journeyed through the Ghost of Tsushima, as it was a signature element in locations like the Golden Forest, Golden Temple, and Adachi Estate.
While gingko trees aren't native to Mount Yotei, the real-life setting for the sequel, they do appear in abundance within Sucker Punch's vision of the landscape. In reality, these trees originally hail from China, where they have been cultivated for centuries. Yet, in the world of Ghost of Yotei, their presence is so significant that a gingko leaf was chosen to represent the game's aesthetic, influencing both its logo design and color scheme.
The sliced appearance of the gingko leaf in the Ghost of Yotei logo could hint at deeper themes within the game. Some fans speculate that the gingko leaf, a symbol historically associated with peace, resilience, hope, and duality in Japanese culture, may suggest a narrative filled with complex emotions. The divided leaf might be a visual cue hinting at themes of conflict, endurance, and the struggle for harmony — ideas that were also at the heart of Ghost of Tsushima's storyline.
With Ghost of Yotei slated for a 2025 release, it's possible that we won't see the game until the latter half of the year. Although it's currently set to launch exclusively on PlayStation 5, Sony's ongoing strategy of bringing its titles to PC means that a Steam release could potentially follow in 2026.
