The highly anticipated Ver.2.0.0 update for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 has just been released, introducing a range of fixes and new graphics options for several titles in the compilation. This update from Konami comes after a previous one in March 2024.
Launched in October 2023, Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 features the first five main entries in Konami's renowned action-adventure stealth game series, along with the NES version of the original Metal Gear and its standalone sequel, Snake's Revenge. Since its debut, the collection has undergone several updates, with the latest focusing on enhancing graphics for two specific titles.
Among the most significant changes in the September 25 Ver.2.0.0 update are the expanded screen settings for the HD editions of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Both games are celebrated as some of the best in the franchise. The newly introduced resolution presets are designed to greatly enhance the visual quality of these titles through upscaling techniques. Additionally, players will benefit from extra customization options for their keyboards, mice, and controllers, allowing for a more tailored gaming experience.
The update also addresses minor issues within Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, although specific details about these fixes were not included in the patch notes. Moreover, the update introduces support for Steam Trading Cards and Badges for the three Metal Gear Solid titles in the collection. Players should note that they do not need to install Ver.2.0.0 to access these features for the first game, as clarified by Konami. Currently, this latest patch is only available for the Steam version of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1.
Looking ahead, Konami has confirmed that development has begun on the second volume of the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection. After the initial launch challenges of Volume 1, longtime series producer Noriaki Okamura has urged fans to be patient as the team works on this next installment. Okamura is also involved in the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, expected to release in 2024. However, speculation suggests that this remake, now titled Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, could potentially be pushed to a 2025 release window.
