In Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, each character class is built around a unique class ability, with some also specializing in particular weapon types that set them apart. Players can explore all classes in the game’s PvP mode, Eternal War, and the PvE mode, Operations.

It’s essential to understand that the character and weapon perks for each class are exclusive to Operations. In contrast, the PvP mode, Eternal War, features a separate progression system for character classes.

Overview of Character Classes in Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2

Assault

Class Ability: Jump Pack allows players to launch themselves both vertically and horizontally, enabling a powerful ground-pound attack.

The Assault class focuses on melee combat and, while lacking primary weapons, compensates with enhanced melee attacks and mobility options. Equipped with some of the highest cleaving potential melee weapons and area-of-effect (AoE) attacks that complement the Jump Pack's maneuvers, the Assault class excels in crowd control.

Cleaving Potential is a measure of a melee weapon's ability to hit multiple enemies in a single strike.

Bulwark

Class Ability: Deploys a Chapter Banner that gradually restores armor for nearby teammates until it expires.

The Bulwark is another melee-oriented class that does not utilize primary weapons. Instead, it wields a secondary weapon, a melee weapon, and a personal shield that absorbs all but the most powerful ranged, melee, and explosive attacks. With no primary weapon or enhanced mobility, the Bulwark shines as a tank and support role, emphasizing defense over offense.

Heavy

Class Ability: Generates a temporary Iron Halo shield that blocks all ranged attacks, providing nearby teammates with reduced damage from such attacks while the shield is active.

The Heavy class serves as the ranged counterpart to the Bulwark, effectively blocking incoming ranged attacks and granting defensive buffs to allies. This class does not feature a melee weapon and instead specializes in robust mid-range weaponry. It introduces a unique mechanic called the Heavy Stance, during which players cannot parry or dodge but can benefit from various buffs based on their weapon perks.

Sniper

Class Ability: Camo Cloak conceals the player from both opponents and enemy NPCs.

In Space Marine 2’s Operations mode, the Sniper boasts a diverse array of viable builds, including melee options. Snipers can adopt roles focused on reviving fallen teammates, self-preservation, sneaky offensive tactics, or a combination of these. Even in PvP, the Sniper’s exceptional range and stealth can create a formidable threat.

Tactical

Class Ability: Auspex Scan identifies enemies within a small radius, highlighting them for teammates and increasing the damage they take for the duration of the ability.

Both the Tactical and Vanguard classes in Space Marine 2 are well-rounded, capable of wielding a wide array of weapons. With their PvE perks, the Tactical class can develop builds that enhance ammo efficiency and apply various debuffs through their class ability.

Vanguard

Class Ability: The Grapnel Launcher locks onto an enemy, propelling the player towards them to deliver a powerful melee attack.

The Vanguard class is also a versatile option, although its PvE perks are more focused on melee than those of the Tactical class. With effective primary and secondary weapons for crowd control, the Vanguard's abilities and melee attacks are well-suited for one-on-one encounters with bosses or other players.
