Saber Interactive has exciting news for fans of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2—the developer is already planning for the future, with potential DLC and even a sequel in the works. Announced during The Game Awards 2021, Space Marine 2 has been a highly anticipated follow-up to the original 2011 release. As the Warhammer universe continues to grow in popularity, this latest entry is poised to further expand the fanbase, fueling speculation and excitement about what’s to come.
Upon its release, Space Marine 2 quickly set records for Saber Interactive. In just under two weeks, it became the developer’s fastest-selling game, surpassing even major titles like Quake and Doom that the studio had previously worked on. With this kind of success, it’s clear that Space Marine 2 is positioned to become a key focus for Saber Interactive in the future.
Tim Willits, the Chief Creative Officer of Saber Interactive, recently revealed in an interview with IGN that the studio is already thinking ahead. While speaking about the success of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, Willits shared that the game’s director, Dimitry Grigorenko, has floated several story ideas that could either become DLC content or lay the foundation for a full sequel. Even though the development team has invested significant time and effort into the game, they’re enthusiastic about what comes next.
Despite the excitement, Willits emphasized that the team needs a moment to regroup before moving forward with concrete plans. “We’re literally just catching our breath,” he explained, reassuring fans that the studio is committed to meeting their expectations. For those who have completed the game’s campaign, there’s a hint that certain characters might play a more prominent role in future expansions, suggesting that the story is far from over.
Fans eager for more immediate updates will be pleased to hear that Saber Interactive has more in store. Beyond post-launch updates and bug fixes, the team is actively developing new classes that will add fresh dynamics to the game’s multiplayer modes. Willits highlighted the importance of releasing new content to keep the community engaged, hinting that additional DLC packs or expansions could be on the horizon. He also mentioned how dropping a trailer for upcoming DLC can create a surge in interest and sales, which could help maintain the game’s momentum long after its initial release.
