Earlier this month, speculation surfaced that Grand Theft Auto 6 had already experienced an internal delay, pushing its anticipated release from Fall 2025 to early or mid-2026. This rumor was shared by a writer at GTABase, who claimed to have spoken with reliable industry figures like Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier. However, despite these claims, the full story has yet to emerge.

Nevertheless, the mere suggestion of a delay caused a stir among eager fans of the GTA franchise. A former Rockstar Games developer quickly stepped in to reassure the community, suggesting that it was far too early for Rockstar to determine if such a delay would be necessary. Now, Take-Two Interactive, the game's publisher, has dismissed these rumors. According to the company’s 2024 annual report, Grand Theft Auto 6 remains on track for its original release timeline.
By diving into the report, it’s clear that Take-Two has no plans for a delay. The report states that "Rockstar Games continues to invest in the franchise and plans to release Grand Theft Auto VI in the Fall of calendar 2025," effectively putting any delay rumors to rest for now.

While these recent comments from Take-Two may have eased concerns for the time being, it's worth noting that delays are always a possibility in the world of game development. Nearly every Rockstar game since Grand Theft Auto 3 has been delayed at some point, with delays ranging from a week to more than a year. Both Red Dead Redemption titles were postponed twice before they finally hit the shelves, and even the next-gen release of GTA 5 saw a four-month delay.
Industry expert Jason Schreier has mentioned that a delay for Grand Theft Auto 6 could still happen. Although the game holds significant importance for Take-Two's financial results in the coming fiscal year, Rockstar’s track record suggests that a postponement is not out of the question. Only time will tell if the developer can break the cycle of delays with this highly anticipated release.
