The Star Wars universe isn't all lighthearted fun. Its core themes often revolve around war, loss, and the emotional turmoil characters face across generations. This is especially true in Respawn and EA’s Star Wars Jedi series, which places a spotlight on Cal Kestis as he grapples with the grief and trauma following the Jedi Order's collapse and the rise of the Galactic Empire. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order delves deeply into these struggles, with Cal being hunted by the Inquisitorius, a group of Force-sensitive beings turned to the dark side through brutal means.

While Star Wars Jedi: Survivor doesn’t directly extend this storyline beyond the reappearance and eventual demise of the Ninth Sister, the weight of the Empire's tyranny is ever-present. Cal, now a Jedi Knight in hiding, lives in a galaxy where survival is a daily struggle for everyone. Survivor constantly reminds players of two of the most significant losses in Fallen Order—Prauf and Trilla Suduri—keeping their legacies alive through the game’s narrative.
Some might argue that Jedi Master Jaro Tapal’s death in Fallen Order is the event that sets the entire story in motion. However, it’s not until the tragic death of Prauf, Cal’s closest friend in Bracca's scrapyards, that Cal fully embraces his Jedi identity and takes action.
Prauf’s bold attempt to stand up to the Empire and protect Cal ultimately leads to his demise, at the hands of none other than Trilla Suduri, who has become the Second Sister. Ironically, both Prauf and Trilla—two of the story’s most profound casualties—are intertwined in this pivotal moment.
If Prauf hadn’t died, it’s possible Cal would’ve continued to live quietly in Bracca, hiding his Force abilities. His sacrifice pushes Cal to reveal himself and confront the Empire head-on. Though Prauf isn’t heavily mentioned in Survivor, his influence is felt throughout. Every act of selflessness and bravery Cal displays, especially when protecting the helpless, can be traced back to Prauf’s impact on him. A perfect example of this is seen with Turgle, a naive character Cal risks his safety for, echoing the same loyalty and courage Prauf embodied.

It’s clear that Cal’s altruistic tendencies come from his upbringing as a Jedi Padawan. However, Prauf’s good-hearted nature plays a significant role in shaping Cal’s values. Even without his Jedi ties, Cal’s moral compass has been deeply influenced by his friend’s sacrifice.
Just moments before her life is ended by Darth Vader, Trilla Suduri utters a haunting plea to Cal: “Avenge us.” It’s a heartbreaking moment, as it reveals that Cal and Cere’s efforts to reach her succeeded in bringing her back from the dark side—tragically, just too late.
Trilla’s dying wish is an almost impossible task. Fans of the broader Star Wars lore know that Cal and Cere’s fight against the Empire ultimately doesn’t have a long-lasting impact on the galaxy as a whole. However, Survivor shows that, in their own way, both characters continue to fight to honor her memory.
Cal may not deal a major blow to the Empire’s vast forces, but his ongoing efforts to disrupt their supply lines and operations show his deep sense of duty to those who have perished under its rule. Similarly, Cere’s commitment to preserving Jedi knowledge and protecting Force-sensitives through the Hidden Path is her way of fulfilling Trilla’s posthumous request. Even in her final moments, Cere whispers Trilla’s name, underscoring how much her former Padawan’s fate drives her.

Cere’s climactic battle with Darth Vader, while ending in her own death, sees her severely wounding the Sith Lord. Though her life ends, this act alone might have been enough to make Trilla proud.
At Pyloon’s Saloon, Cal hints to Greez Dritus that he might one day put away his lightsaber and leave the fight against the Empire behind. If he can lead the Hidden Path to safety on Tanalorr, perhaps Cal will feel that he’s done enough to finally avenge Trilla. With a third game in the Star Wars Jedi series confirmed, it’s likely Cal’s journey is far from over, and the memories of both Prauf and Trilla will continue to guide him.
