Respawn Entertainment is set to conclude its acclaimed Star Wars Jedi series with an upcoming sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, as confirmed by EA. The studio, known for its work on the Titanfall series, first captivated Star Wars fans with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order in 2019. This game introduced players to Cal Kestis, a former Jedi Padawan navigating the tumultuous era of the Empire’s dominance. The sequel, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, followed Cal as he sought refuge for the remaining Jedi while evading Imperial forces.
Both titles in the Star Wars Jedi franchise have been met with positive reception. Recent job postings at Respawn hinted at the development of a new installment, fueling speculation about the next chapter in the series. Despite the secrecy surrounding the project, EA has now confirmed that this upcoming game will be the final installment in the trilogy.
During EA's Investor Day 2024 event, Laura Miele, President of EA Entertainment and Technology, confirmed that Respawn is indeed working on the concluding chapter of the Star Wars Jedi saga. Miele assured attendees that Respawn is "working hard to bring the final chapter of this thrilling story to players." However, specific details about the game remain under wraps.
Miele also highlighted the impressive success of the previous Star Wars Jedi titles, noting that the series has attracted over 40 million players and generated over $5 billion in net bookings since Fallen Order's debut. The recent release of last-gen versions of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One is expected to further boost these figures as Respawn and EA prepare for the series’ finale.
While the exact storyline of the final game is still unknown, there has been considerable speculation about Cal Kestis’ journey. Given the darker themes explored in the previous installments, many fans anticipate a more somber conclusion. Cal’s actor, Cameron Monaghan, has previously expressed interest in delving into darker aspects of his character's arc.
It’s also worth noting that the upcoming game will be directed by a new individual, as Stig Asmussen, the director of the previous entries, has left Respawn to establish his own studio. This change in leadership adds an additional layer of intrigue about how the final chapter will unfold.
