Keen-eyed Smite 2 players may have already pieced together the mystery of the first two gods set to join the game following its 24/7 alpha launch on August 27, 2024. With subtle hints dropped on the official Smite 2 social media pages, fans have been speculating, and the mystery is now solved. Hi-Rez Studios has confirmed that these additions will be just the start as the game’s roster expands to eventually rival the size of its predecessor.
Nu Wa and Amaterasu are the first gods confirmed to join the Smite 2 roster, marking the beginning of Hi-Rez Studios’ plan to steadily bring back fan-favorite gods from the original game. When asked about the post-launch roadmap, Cantatore explained that the studio aims to introduce two gods every three weeks. This release schedule will either feature two familiar faces from the original Smite or a combination of one classic god and one brand-new character exclusive to Smite 2, like the recently introduced Mordred.
This announcement is sure to excite fans of both Nu Wa and Amaterasu, as Hi-Rez Studios begins the monumental task of integrating Smite’s vast lineup of 130 gods into its sequel. While some players may have to be patient for their favorite gods to arrive, Cantatore shared a light-hearted note about his personal favorite, Sylvanus, being further down the release schedule.
Despite Smite 2 taking center stage, Cantatore reassured players that the original Smite will continue to receive support for as long as it retains a dedicated player base. Hi-Rez remains committed to listening to community feedback and rolling out updates and improvements to keep fans engaged across both games. While Smite veterans may be familiar with the powers of Nu Wa and Amaterasu, Smite 2 will reintroduce these characters with a fresh twist. In the original game, Nu Wa was classified as a Mage and Amaterasu as a Warrior, but these rigid class distinctions are being left behind in the sequel.
Players can expect significant improvements to how gods function in Smite 2, especially in its classic game modes. In addition to smoother gameplay mechanics, the sequel provides players with more freedom to customize their favorite gods’ skillsets. While the core game modes remain similar to those of the original Smite, Smite 2 differentiates itself by introducing pre-built loadouts, a wider selection of items, and a more flexible class system. This new system allows any god to take on any role, as long as the build is tailored to support that function.
With these exciting changes and the promise of ongoing content, Smite 2 is shaping up to offer fans an even deeper and more versatile gameplay experience.
