Warning: Spoilers for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom ahead.
The map for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom has been unveiled at a recent Nintendo preview event, revealing intriguing locations within the Kingdom of Hyrule. Following the immense success of 2023’s Tears of the Kingdom, fans are eager to explore the charming new world of Echoes of Wisdom and step into the shoes of Princess Zelda.
Drawing inspiration from the beloved style of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, this latest installment marks the 21st release in the Zelda franchise. In Echoes of Wisdom, players will assume the role of Princess Zelda as the central hero, tasked with rescuing Link and saving Hyrule from the clutches of Ganon using the powerful Tri Rod. The game is now available for pre-order, with players set to encounter familiar races such as the Gerudo, Gorons, and Zora.
Stephen Totilo, a prominent game journalist, shared insights from his 90-minute playthrough of Echoes of Wisdom during the Nintendo preview event in New York City. Totilo's Twitter update featured a brief 40-second clip showcasing the game’s map and providing a glimpse of Zelda’s key abilities and the game’s intricate level design.
The revealed map boasts an ancient aesthetic typical of Zelda titles. The video offered a sneak peek at the primary quest, “The Mysterious Rifts,” revealing that Princess Zelda finds herself transported to a small cave via an underground waterway. It’s important to note that the clip displayed an incomplete version of the map, with the Still World region yet to be shown.
The newly unveiled map highlights several notable locations within Hyrule. The map’s center likely represents Hyrule Castle, while Kakariko Village is identifiable in the western part of the map, marked by distinctive windmills.
In the southeastern corner, a large heart-shaped area may indicate the presence of the Great Deku Tree, suggesting that the surrounding region could be the Lost Woods. Fans speculate that the Goron’s region might be situated behind Kakariko Village, echoing the layout of Ocarina of Time. Additionally, a location reminiscent of Lon Lon Ranch, potentially marked by a circuit icon southwest of Hyrule Castle, was spotted in the game’s trailer.
In addition to the launch of Echoes of Wisdom, September 26 promises to be a significant day for Zelda enthusiasts. Nintendo will release a special Zelda-themed Switch Lite, known as the Hyrule Edition. This limited edition console will come bundled with a 12-month Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership, granting access to a range of classic Zelda games.
