Each year, it seems we’re proclaiming that Dungeons & Dragons is at its peak, but with the release of Baldur’s Gate 3, this statement has never felt more accurate. The appeal of creating a character and stepping into someone else’s shoes remains irresistibly engaging, drawing players into the depths of complex CRPG mechanics for a rich roleplaying experience.
Enter Worlds of Aria. This new multiplayer, tabletop-inspired RPG promises a "cozy" alternative to the traditional D&D experience. Designed to offer a narrative-driven adventure without the need to master intricate class systems or spell mechanics, Worlds of Aria focuses on team-based decision-making and shared laughs, emulating the joy of gathering around a tabletop with friends.
From the moment you engage with the UI, it’s clear that Worlds of Aria opts for simplicity over complexity. Rather than overwhelming you with numbers and a multitude of attacks, the game streamlines encounters by offering a limited set of actions. Whether you charge into battle, attempt to flee, or snag some loot while your allies create a distraction, your choices are straightforward and impactful.
Each scenario presents three to five options, and even as you progress, the game remains approachable. Campaigns are designed to be short and sweet, lasting between two to four hours, and although they interconnect, you can play them in any order.

One aspect that could enhance the game is character creation. Although Worlds of Aria currently relies on pre-made characters, many players cherish the process of designing their own adventurer—a key aspect of D&D. Games like Wildermyth allow players to craft their own heroes and narratives, adding significant replay value. Introducing a similar feature could enrich Worlds of Aria.
Despite this, the freedom to play against type—like a warrior trying to sneak around as a rogue—adds a layer of personal choice. Whether your dice rolls favor you or not, the opportunity for creative gameplay remains.
In conclusion, while Worlds of Aria might not yet fulfill its full potential, its accessible design and focus on cooperative fun make it worth exploring. If you and your D&D friends are seeking a brief tabletop adventure, especially for newcomers, this game offers a promising start.
