No Man’s Sky fans have reason to celebrate with the launch of the latest update, Aquarius. This fresh update introduces a highly anticipated feature - fishing - alongside a host of new cosmetics, cooking recipes, and an underwater-themed expedition.
While many expected the update to coincide with the anticipated Worlds Part 2, Aquarius builds on the Worlds Part 1 update that was released earlier this year. Despite this surprise, the addition of fishing is a welcomed feature that fans have been eager to see for years.
The Worlds Part 1 update, which debuted in July, was a major milestone for No Man’s Sky, delivering a significant overhaul to planetary generation and exploration. This comprehensive update was well-received and completely free to all players. With the release of the Aquarius update, fans can now enjoy an enhanced oceanic experience, with new fishing mechanics adding a new layer of gameplay.
The Aquarius update enhances the ocean visuals introduced in the Worlds Part 1 update, allowing players to explore stunning aquatic environments. New tools include fishing rods and advanced trap technology for catching rare fish. Additionally, players can utilize the Exo-Skiff, a deployable platform that floats on water, to create a comfortable fishing base on any body of water, from shallow lakes to deep oceans. The Exo-Skiff features its own cold storage inventory to safely store catches, preventing overcrowding in Exosuit inventories.
Players can now set up their ideal fishing spots anywhere in the universe and catch over 160 different fish species. These new fish can be cooked using a variety of new recipes, sold for profit, traded for nanites with Iteration: Cronus aboard the Space Anomaly, or consumed to gain life support fuel and other gameplay benefits. Occasionally, players might also retrieve interesting items from the water, such as messages in bottles or water-damaged tech upgrades.
The update also includes a new expedition - Aquarius Expedition - a limited-time event running for six weeks. This expedition will guide players to some of the galaxy’s top fishing locations and reward them with exclusive aquatic-themed cosmetics and a unique fishing rod.
- Fishing Rig Installation: Players can now equip a Fishing Rig in their Multi-Tool to fish in any body of water. Fishing Rig blueprints are available for purchase at the Space Anomaly.
- Diverse Fish Variety: Over 160 fish species can be caught, requiring exploration across various planets and conditions, including different times of day and weather.
- Catch History: A new Fishing section in the Wonders catalogue records catch history, including weight records.
- Special Bait: Craft specialized bait or use any edible item to attract specific fish.
- Seafood Recipes: New recipes for the Nutrient Processor have been added for cooking your catch.
- Releasing Fish: Players can now release fish back into the water if they choose not to consume or sell them.
- Inanimate Objects: Occasionally, players may find objects like messages in bottles or water-damaged tech upgrades instead of fish.
- Automated Traps: New Automated Traps, which attract fish based on water conditions, are available for research.
- Exo-Skiff Technology: The Exo-Skiff is a deployable fishing platform that hovers above water, featuring a Cold Storage inventory and customization options. It can be accessed from the Quick Menu after acquiring the appropriate blueprints.
- Fishing Compatibility: Fishing supports both first and third-person perspectives and offers unique mechanics for VR players.
- New Music: New music tracks have been added to enhance the fishing experience.
- Expedition Fifteen: The Aquarius Expedition, featuring new posters, decals, titles, a deep-sea diving suit customisation set, the Lost Angler’s Rig fishing rod, and the Aquarius Flightpack, will begin shortly.
The update also addresses various technical issues and introduces optimizations for an improved gameplay experience. Players can look forward to a more immersive and engaging fishing experience as they explore the depths of No Man’s Sky's universe.
