The differences between Minecraft Java Edition and Bedrock Edition are vast. Some, like how redstone functions or how structures generate, are significant. However, there are also many smaller distinctions, particularly in the items that players can access—or in the case of Bedrock, can't access.
Several items exist exclusively in the Java Edition of the game, with no equivalent in Bedrock. Below, we’ll explore five items that remain missing from Minecraft Bedrock Edition.
At first glance, the debug stick might appear to be an ordinary stick, but its enchanted glow hints at its real power. This special tool allows players to modify block states directly, such as changing the direction of blocks or waterlogging them without the need for a bucket.
This feature makes it incredibly useful for making precise block adjustments, especially in tight spaces. The absence of the debug stick in Bedrock can be frustrating for builders who would benefit from its functionality.
The knowledge book is another item exclusive to Java, only obtainable via commands. When used, it reveals locked crafting recipes, automatically adding them to the player’s recipe book. Typically, recipes unlock naturally as players discover new items, but the knowledge book speeds up this process.
For map creators, this item is essential in controlling what players can craft, especially when combined with the "doLimitedCrafting" gamerule. Without this tool in Bedrock, designing puzzle or adventure maps can become much more challenging.
One of the most notable omissions in Bedrock is the minecart with a furnace. This item, created by combining a furnace with a minecart, doesn't serve as a smelting station but instead acts as a powered cart. When fueled, it moves along rails at a speed just slightly slower than walking.
Fueling the furnace with coal or charcoal extends its operating time, which can reach up to 27 minutes. Additionally, furnace minecarts can pull up to four other carts, making them perfect for automating the transportation of items or mobs over long distances—a feature sorely missed by Bedrock players.
Java Edition introduces luck as a status effect, mainly tied to the Luck of the Sea enchantment, which boosts fishing rewards. However, there are other luck-related items in Java that remain unobtainable in Bedrock without commands. These include the potion of luck (with splash and lingering variants) and the tipped arrow of luck.
Unfortunately, none of these luck-based items have made their way to Bedrock, leaving players without access to this intriguing mechanic.
Glowing, like luck, is a status effect that Java players can use but Bedrock players cannot. This effect places a glowing outline around affected mobs, making them visible through walls. In Java, glowing can be applied either by ringing a bell (which reveals nearby illagers, ravagers, and witches) or by using spectral arrows.
Spectral arrows can be found in bastion loot chests, bartered with piglins, or crafted using glowstone dust. The glowing effect and these unique arrows are entirely absent from Bedrock Edition, leaving players without this handy tool for tracking mobs.
These Java-exclusive items offer unique gameplay experiences and tools that are sorely missed in Bedrock Edition. As players eagerly await future updates, there's hope that some of these features will eventually make their way into Bedrock, bringing the two versions closer to parity.
