Recruiting characters in Baldur's Gate 3 can be a complex task, and one of the most unusual workarounds for adding Minthara to Tav's party now has greater context. The grumpy Paladin, Minthara, posed a dilemma for players: killing her at the end of a certain quest wasn't the way to go if they wanted her on their team. Instead, players found that simply knocking her out enabled them to recruit her, an approach that felt like a glitch but proved highly effective.
Thanks to the keen observation of Reddit user MossyMak, this player-discovered glitch gained enough popularity that Larian Studios has decided to make it a legitimate option in the upcoming Patch 7. The patch notes hint that Minthara "will now react if you knock her out in Act 1," bringing a more realistic and integrated method for recruiting her. Although it's unclear how Minthara will respond to this unconventional recruitment, it's expected that her reaction will include an approval rating that reflects the decision, rather than ignoring it altogether.
Minthara is a significant character in the first act of Baldur's Gate 3, leading a goblin army and holding the Druid Halsin captive. Given her direct opposition to Tav's mission, most players will encounter her as a boss they must defeat to free Halsin. However, with strategic thinking, it's possible to recruit Minthara as a companion—and even pursue a romance with her—by ending the boss fight with her unconscious rather than dead.
In Act 2, players have another chance to secure Minthara's loyalty. Upon reaching Moonrise Towers, a few successful Wisdom Rolls can persuade Kethric to imprison rather than execute her. After this, players can enter the dungeon and deal with the Questioners who are erasing Minthara's memories, providing a chance to free the Drow Paladin. Once freed, a visit to the camp will prompt Minthara to express her gratitude and join Tav's party.
Minthara proves to be a formidable ally, capable of turning the tide in combat with powerful abilities. Her Soul Branding skill is particularly useful, offering enhanced movement and dealing 2d4 + 1 Fire Damage on the next attack, either for herself or her allies. While Minthara isn't essential for completing the main storyline, her presence and unique skills add depth and memorable moments to the game.
Although Minthara begins as an enemy in Baldur's Gate 3, a combination of persuasive dialogue and thoughtful choices can transform her into a romantic partner. While she may not have the widespread appeal of characters like Astarion or Shadowheart, Minthara's romance path is intriguing in its own right, even if it lacks the shock factor of other relationships in the game. To win Minthara’s heart, players need to gain her approval by aligning with her values, a task easier said than done.
Minthara's actions are driven by her devotion to The Absolute, a mysterious deity she seeks to appease. To gain her favor, Tav must demonstrate unwavering loyalty to The Absolute and consider its will in every decision. Characters who oppose The Absolute will find it nearly impossible to romance Minthara. Additionally, Minthara despises cowardice and admires decisiveness, making these traits essential for anyone looking to win her over.
Despite Minthara’s growing popularity within the Baldur's Gate 3 community, many players feel her storyline is more limited compared to other party members. Beyond her appearance in Act 1 and potential rescue in Act 2, her role in the overarching narrative is minimal, making her recruitment seem like the end of her character arc. Fans have called for DLC or expansions to explore Minthara's story further after the events of Baldur's Gate 3. While such content may not be in the works, there is a possibility of her returning in other formats.
Wizards of the Coast has shown interest in bringing characters from Baldur's Gate 3 back in future projects, whether through a sequel or other licensed Dungeons & Dragons media. While Minthara's current popularity might not guarantee her a spot in a tabletop adventure or a potential Baldur's Gate 4, the possibility remains open.
Minthara may be a less conventional choice for Tav's party, but her complex motivations and potential for future stories make her a compelling character to follow. Until any official announcements are made, players can continue to create their own adventures, exploring the vast and versatile world of Dungeons & Dragons.
