In the vast, post-apocalyptic world of Fallout 4, players can stumble upon an unmarked location that serves as a clever tribute to a beloved TV show. While the game takes creative liberties with its depiction of a nuclear-ravaged Boston—known as the Commonwealth—it does feature some accurately recreated landmarks. Iconic sites like the Old North Church serve as the headquarters for the Railroad faction, MIT is reimagined as the Institute, and Fenway Park becomes the bustling hub known as Diamond City.
These landmarks are integrated into the game’s main story and factions, but other lesser-known locations receive far less attention. Some players might recognize these spots due to their familiarity with Boston, while others might discover them purely by chance. One such hidden gem is a nod to a legendary Boston-based sitcom, complete with a unique Fallout twist.

In Fallout 4, players can find a hidden bar called Prost, a direct reference to the iconic bar from the classic sitcom Cheers. The name "Prost" is a German toast, similar to saying "cheers" in English. Cheers, a show that aired for over a decade, was set in a cozy dive bar in Boston’s Back Bay area, where the personal lives of the staff and regulars unfolded over 11 seasons. At its peak, Cheers was the most-watched TV show, with its finale drawing in 93 million viewers. The show’s legacy includes spin-offs like Frasier and has cemented its status as a cornerstone of the sitcom genre.
Despite being a low-key reference, Prost is one of the more faithful recreations of a Boston landmark in Fallout 4. It mirrors its real-world counterpart’s location at 84 Beacon Street, near Boston Common. Players can find Prost by heading slightly northwest from the Boston Common waypoint, where they’ll spot a fenced staircase leading down to a basement entrance, much like the iconic entrance seen in the opening credits of Cheers.

Inside Prost, players will find a bar strikingly similar to the one in Cheers, complete with a central, square-shaped bar and a distinctly dive-bar vibe. Two skeletons sit in and near the corner seat, representing the beloved characters Norm and Cliff in their favorite spots. Other skeletons are dressed to resemble additional Cheers characters, adding to the homage. The walls are adorned with baseball posters, a nod to both the real-life décor of Cheers and the show's main character, Sam Malone. Played by Ted Danson, Sam is a former Red Sox relief pitcher who often chats about baseball with his patrons.
Exploring Prost further, players can find baseball grenades in the back office, and the entire bar is littered with bottles and cups, making it a prime location for collecting glass.
Although Prost is technically an unmarked location, it does connect to two side quests associated with Fallout 4's Creation Club content. Players who have downloaded the "Nuka-Cola Collector Workshop" add-on will discover two unique Nuka-Cola collectibles inside Prost: the Scavenger’s Nuka-Cola Outfit, which boosts Charisma and Endurance, and the Vault-Tec Cross-Promotional Item #3, a bobblehead of Vault Boy holding a Nuka-Cola bottle. These items are tied to the "Carbonated Concerns" quest, which eventually unlocks the Nu Café Ola as a player base.
While the pre-war timeline might seem a bit unclear, this quest provides some backstory for Prost. A note found on the body of Ellie, the former owner of Nu Café Ola, indicates that Prost remained operational until the bombs fell but has since been left untouched, likely because the skeletal patrons weren't the best for business. In the years following, the bar became a scavenging site for Ellie, who used it to stock up on glasses and beverages for her own café.

Despite its connections to these quests, Prost doesn’t offer additional pop culture references to Cheers within the missions. Interestingly, at least one player, known as cn1731 on Reddit, used rewards from the Cheers-inspired quest to recreate another iconic sitcom set—the Central Perk café from Friends.
Ultimately, Prost serves as a delightful Easter egg for fans of Cheers, offering a charming nod to the classic sitcom. Whether it was initially intended to play a larger role in Fallout 4 or was always meant to be a hidden reference, its inclusion adds depth to the game’s rich world. For players who appreciate unique in-game collectibles and pop culture homages, Prost is a location worth exploring, especially for the exclusive Nuka-Cola merchandise available through the Creation Club.
