Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Unveils Bold New Proximity Chat Feature

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is set to make waves with its innovative proximity chat feature, launching alongside the game on October 25. This new mechanic, tied to the body shield system, is expected to stir up significant controversy and potentially lead to a flurry of bans.

Developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is the next installment in Activision's acclaimed series of first-person shooters. It introduces exciting new gameplay elements, including the Omnimovement system and the body shield mechanic. While the body shield allows players to use enemies as human shields, it also activates proximity voice chat between the attacker and their shielded target, creating a potentially chaotic and confrontational dynamic.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Adds Proximity Voice Chat Mechanic

In a recent announcement on Twitter, Treyarch revealed that voice chat between players will be triggered when using a body shield in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, and urged the community that when using this new feature, to "be nice". Reactions have been mixed, with some joking that it will lead to widespread bans from voice chat, while others see it as a potential goldmine for content creation.

Competitive lobbies in Call of Duty games are notoriously noisy, and developers have previously tackled toxicity issues head-on. Between August 2023 and January 2024, over two million players in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 faced bans for toxic behavior. Those engaging in unacceptable conduct might find themselves relegated to a limited matchmaking pool.

Additional Features in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6

Beyond the proximity chat and Omnimovement system, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will also debut the Kill Order game mode and introduce new maps. Fans of Zombies mode will be pleased to see its return with a round-based system, which had been absent in recent titles. Enhancements include shared door purchases and a new exfil system for ending runs.

The single-player campaign of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 promises a thrilling spy action experience set in an alternate 1990s. It continues the story from Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, exploring the rise of the United States as the world's leading superpower.
