A dedicated Final Fantasy 7 fan recently secured a one-of-a-kind Lego sculpture for an impressive $12,500 at an auction. This unique diorama captures the iconic scene between Cloud and Aerith in the Sector 5 slums, one of two sets created for a Square Enix social media giveaway in 2023. The scene depicts Cloud and Aerith meeting in the deserted church where Aerith has cultivated a lush flower field. Although the sculpture was crafted by Square Enix and not Lego, it was awarded as a prize, making it a highly sought-after collector's item.

One of these exclusive sets made its way to Heritage Auctions, where it caught the eye of keen collectors, as reported by Kotaku. After 23 bids, the auction concluded on August 23, with the final price hitting $12,500. Initially, Square Enix had estimated the sculpture's retail value at $150 during the giveaway.

Heritage Auctions described the item as follows:

"Here’s a rarity you may never have the chance to bid on again. After an intense fan vote, the fateful encounter between Final Fantasy VII characters Cloud Strife and Aerith Gainsborough in the Sector 5 slums was chosen to be recreated into a LEGO model. This exclusive set, created as a tie-in with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, was given away to a single lucky fan. Only two of these sets were produced. Measuring 41.5 inches tall, 29 inches wide, and 20 inches deep, this massive, highly detailed diorama features Cloud and Aerith within the ruined sanctuary, complete with stained glass windows, gothic columns, broken pews, a hole in the roof, and scattered flower petals on the floor. The roof structure showcases elaborate rafters, adding to the depth of the scene. Focused primarily on the church’s interior, this set beautifully captures a core moment in the storyline, making it a must-have collectible and display item for fans of the game and LEGO builders alike. It is complete and in excellent condition."

Before the giveaway, Final Fantasy fans had the opportunity to vote for which scene would be immortalized in Lego. Choices included the Sector 5 slums church, Aerith’s house, Cloud and Tifa on the Nibelheim water tower, and the Honeybee Inn. Unsurprisingly, the Sector 5 scene emerged as the winner. To enter the giveaway, fans needed to follow the Final Fantasy 7 X account (formerly Twitter), like, and retweet a specific post.

Valerie Spiegel, Heritage Auctions' video game managing director, emphasized the set’s exclusivity in a press release, stating, “After an intense fan vote, the fateful encounter between Final Fantasy VII characters Cloud Strife and Aerith Gainsborough in the Sector 5 slums twas chosen to be recreated into a LEGO model. This exclusive set, created as a tie-in with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, was given away to a single lucky fan.”

The rare Lego diorama was featured in Heritage Auctions’ Video Games Signature sale, which ran from August 23 to August 24. Other notable items included a sealed copy of The Legend of Zelda graded at 9.2, which fetched $375,000, a Nintendo World Championships trophy from 1990 that sold for $5,000, and a Nintendo PlayStation SNES prototype controller from the failed Nintendo-Sony collaboration, which went for $35,000. These high-profile items certainly thrilled collectors and highlighted the enduring appeal of gaming memorabilia.
