Splitgate 2 might expand its roster of factions if there's enough demand from players. After much anticipation, Splitgate 2 was finally announced, bringing significant changes to the Halo-inspired shooter, including the introduction of factions. This new feature has sparked mixed reactions among the Splitgate community. Some fans feel that factions make the game resemble a hero shooter, which they aren't too keen on, while others see them as more akin to a loadout system and don't mind the addition.
Currently, Splitgate 2 will feature three factions for players to choose from. Each faction functions similarly to a loadout, offering unique abilities and gadgets. The three factions include Aeros, designed for agility and aggressive play; Meridian, suited for players who prefer a support role; and Sabrask, ideal for those focused on defense. Players can build teams with any combination of these factions, but once a faction is chosen, it cannot be switched until the end of the round.
In an interview with Tom Henderson, Ian Proulx, CEO and Co-founder of 1047 Games, mentioned that if there is a significant demand for more factions in Splitgate 2, the developers are open to adding them. Henderson pointed out that some hero shooter games, like Apex Legends, often expand their character roster significantly, sometimes jumping from eight to 25 playable characters. Proulx is aware of this potential for bloat and wants to avoid having too many factions, stating he doesn’t want the game to approach ten factions. However, he remains open to the idea of adding a few more.
When it comes to factions in Splitgate 2, 1047 Games seems committed to listening to its players. While the choice of faction and playstyle is a central strategic element of the game, the developers don't seem intent on restricting players. Proulx admits he's not entirely certain about the final direction Splitgate 2 will take regarding factions, but he is keen to engage with the community to understand what players want.
Since the announcement of a Splitgate sequel, 1047 Games has shown a clear ambition to improve upon every aspect of the original game. This includes being open to changes that may enhance the player experience. While some fans are concerned about how these changes will impact the final product, 1047 Games demonstrates a willingness to address these concerns, aiming to make Splitgate 2 the best game it can be by responding to player feedback and accommodating their ideas.
