Apex Legends is introducing a new 12v12 team deathmatch mode in the upcoming Void Reckoning event, scheduled to run from July 23 to August 6, where two teams of 12 will battle each other in various locales based on fan-favorite POIs from existing maps, but following controversial changes to the game's Battle Pass, Apex Legends is currently being review-bombed on Steam, reflecting the ongoing challenges Respawn Entertainment faces in maintaining player satisfaction with the game's evolving features and systems.
Apex Legends is getting a new limited-time game mode in the form of a 12v12 team deathmatch. The Void Reckoning event for Apex Legends adds new collectibles that players can unlock, as well as premium skins that can be purchased via the in-game store.
Apex Legends has long been a leader in the battle royale scene. In the five years since the game launched, it has managed to maintain relevancy and interest thanks to a constantly shifting landscape for players to enjoy, and frequent events that shake up gameplay in new and interesting ways. Constant balance changes have kept the meta of the game fresh, whether with weapons or with the Legends themselves. Apex Legends runs limited-time events frequently, each featuring its own game modes and cosmetics, and each making sure there is always something new and exciting for players new and old to sink their teeth into.
The newest event for Apex Legends adds a 12v12 mode to the game, adding a new element to the methodical gameplay of the battle royale. The upcoming Void Reckoning event allows two teams of 12 to go toe-to-toe with each other with enhanced health regeneration in various locales based around fan-favorite POIs from existing maps, much like Apex Legend's already-established Arena mode. Players can try their luck from a loot pool of 22 "Regal" cosmetics and can earn Void Points by playing the game and completing challenges, cashing these points in for weapon skins, charms, and other unlockables. The 12v12 mode, called "Big TDM", will only run for the duration of the Void Reckoning event, so gamers need to act quickly if they want to try their hand at the hectic new game mode.
This event comes hot on the heels of recent changes to the game's Battle Pass, which were so poorly received by the community that Apex Legends is currently getting heavily review-bombed on Steam. The changes involved adjustments to how the Battle Pass could be purchased, removing the option of using Apex Coins. Players used to be able to regain the money they spent on the Battle Pass in the form of Apex Coins, which they could then use to buy the next season's Battle Pass. After the most recent change, the Battle Pass can now only be bought directly with real currency, meaning that dedicated players who have spent several years being rewarded by this cycle will now be forced to spend actual money. Unsurprisingly, longtime fans are not happy about this.
Many fans are calling the launch of this event tone-deaf after the company had no response to the backlash Respawn and EA received following the Battle Pass change. Like most Limited Time Modes in Apex Legends, the Void Reckoning Event is set to run for two weeks, starting on July 23 and ending on August 6. The community's dissatisfaction with the latest updates has led to a significant negative response, reflecting the ongoing challenges Respawn Entertainment faces in maintaining player satisfaction with the game's evolving features and systems.
