Destiny 2 is crossing over with the social VR platform Rec Room, bringing Guardian-themed cosmetics and a new Guardian Gauntlet activity set in the iconic Tower for players to enjoy across VR, consoles, and PC. This unexpected collaboration hints at more potential crossover opportunities between Destiny 2 and other games, as Bungie continues to expand the reach and engagement of its hit sci-fi shooter franchise.
Rec Room, the popular social VR platform, has revealed a surprising crossover with Bungie's Destiny 2. This collaboration allows fans to visit the iconic Tower and experience new content in the MMO game across VR platforms, consoles, and PC. Additionally, cosmetics based on the three main classes of Destiny 2 will be made available in Rec Room over time.
In recent years, Bungie has worked with other developers to bring cosmetic content, including ornaments and emotes, from various third-party games into Destiny 2. Titles such as Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, and Fortnite have all crossed over with Destiny 2, and Destiny 2-themed content has also been introduced in games like Fall Guys and Arknights. This latest collaboration with Rec Room showcases Bungie's continued efforts to expand the reach of its hit sci-fi shooter franchise.
The Rec Room and Destiny 2 crossover is now live, featuring Hunter cosmetics, a recreated version of the Tower, and the Guardian Gauntlet activity. Players can don the Hunter cloak, visit the Tower with their friends, and engage in activities like "the floor is lava." They can also prepare a fireteam in the Tower, play a match of Guardian Gauntlet, and share screenshots of their session with other players around the world. With up to eight players able to visit the Tower in a single session, and over 75,000 Rec Room players already experiencing the iconic location from Bungie's flagship series, this crossover is sure to delight Destiny 2 fans.

The Rec Room developers have made a significant policy change with the introduction of the Destiny 2 crossover, allowing third-party items that cover the player character's face, such as the Hunter's headpiece, to be included. This shift in policy is set to accommodate future third-party activations and partnerships, hinting at more potential crossover opportunities for Rec Room players. Similarly, Destiny 2 fans can also anticipate more crossover content in the game as Bungie continues to expand the reach and engagement of its popular sci-fi shooter franchise.
Bungie's willingness to collaborate with other developers and publishers is evident in the new Destiny 2 crossover with Rec Room, allowing players to experience the game's iconic Tower and Guardian-themed cosmetics across various platforms. This follows Destiny 2's recent in-game partnership with Dungeons & Dragons, which introduced cosmetics inspired by the tabletop game's classes, launched alongside the expansion The Final Shape last month. These crossover initiatives demonstrate Bungie's commitment to expanding the Destiny franchise and engaging with players through diverse and unexpected channels.
